Where do you rank Dools?

Here's how I rank SEC coaches currently, and I stress currently. What say you, VN?

1. Saban
2. Petrino
3. Miles
4. Richt
5. Spurrier
6. Mullen
7. Chizik
8. Dooley
9. Franklin
10. Muschamp
11. Phillips
12. Freeze (unknown commodity at this point, as are Mizzou and A&M at this point)

Dooley 14th

Then how the hell do you put Franklin over Dooley?

Franklin should be ahead of Dooley at this point. Look at how bad Dooley has done here, imagine him at Vandy.. Scary thought.

Franklin may or may not be a better coach, but he sure got his team to a bowl game this year. OT away from beating UT.

1 Saban
2 Dooley
3 Petrino
4 Richt
5 Spurrier
6 Franklin
7 Miles
8 Mullen
9 Chizik
10 Muschamp
11 Freeze
12 Philips

I know I'm biased but I think when Dooley starts winning he'll be the next best behind Saban.
If Petrino could recruit like Saban he'd be right there at the top.
Richt could be higher if he'd lock down all the talent in Georgia every year.
As bad as I hate to say it, Franklin has impressed me so far with what he's got to work with.
Miles would be higher if he didn't say some of the bonehead things he says and didn't make so many mistakes in game management.
Muschamp can recruit but I think that's about all he does well. I wouldn't want him speaking for and representing my university.

This is the kind of lunacy that makes me wonder what people are thinking... He is in no way the 2nd best in the SEC. Not even close. He is closer to last than 2nd best. No matter what can of fan you are, you shouldn't be this dumb...

dooley's been a head coach 5 years. he's had 4 losing seasons.

his career record at tennessee is matched by joker philips' career record at kentucky.

no way dooley can objectively be ranked in the top 10.

You need to quit worring about Dooley! You have plenty to worry about with old Musrat!

Kind of hard to even be figuring out where Dooley should be at this point. I'll revisit this thread next December. And then if he's still around in 2013 I'll revisit it again. Nobody knows where he ranks just yet. With stud players he may very well turn out to be #1 or he may very well turn out to be #14.

4-12 in the SEC makes it pretty clear where he ranks

Pretty much. Excuses can be made for many failures. 2012 will likely define Dooley's place in Vol history.

2012 does not define him. If he fails in 2012, it is more of the same. If he succeeds in 2012, 1 good year is not enough to define his place in Vol history.

That is why we will then look to 2013 or 2014 to decide if he is worth keeping as a continual program builder or not.

. If he fails in 2012, he is a loser and there are no more excuses left. The only thing he can do in 2012 is open the possibility to the idea that he is not a terrible head coach in over his head.

Ok... I can agree with that.

I get what you are saying but at the end of the day it is about the results on the field. This year is a great opportunity for Dooley to break out into the scene. Most everybody can agree that the list can change after every year.

For once I have to agree with the Dawgfan. Dooley has a lot to prove to be considered one of the better coaches in the SEC.

Justin,

We've already talked about his record many times over on this site and most of us on here agree that he has had nothing to win with while here. Stop beating a dead horse. You don't have to be football literate to know this.

Now if you want to talk about game management, Dooley has not done to good of a job at that but to think he was going to win with the players UT has had on the field the last two years is crazy. You do not win in the SEC with Fresh and Soph carrying the load so quit worrying about his record the last two years. We have players now that have played in the SEC for two years. A pretty solid incoming class to help the veterans. We'll see what kind of game manager he is when we have players that are SEC calibur players on the field. I don't know. I'm not saying he is or he ain't and nobody on this board knows what he can do with good players. So please stop with the 4-12 crap. Get that out of your head. Better days are coming soon for UT football. Don't miss it by being blind by that 4-12 mark.

If he fails miserably in 2012, it won't define his place in Vol history, he will BE history.

Saban, Spurrier, and Petrino are the top three, and then there's a huge drop after that. Dooley would probably have to go somewhere in the middle at this point in time, with this most likely being his make or break season. What's the explanation for some having Miles in the top two or three? He won a NC, but the athletes that are on his teams are amazingly talented. Must be a great recruiter, I'll give him that. But I have serious doubts about his ability to coach. He's cost his team several games IMO, and come very close to costing them several more.

Dooley was given the "captainship" of a ship that was already sinking from its previous captains that did not go down with the ship. Give him a break he is going to go down with the ship or save it, not going to pull a kiffin and save his own a**. D4L
