Where do we stand on the bowl ban?

The NIL rule has 0 to do with coaches stuffing McDonald's bags with money and giving them to recruits. That's still a violation now.
There's no reason to stuff bags now. You just tell them I can get you this NIL with X and it's a done deal.
All Saban has to do is say , hey look at Bryce. Playing for Alabama he had almost $1million in endorsements before taking the field.
Come here and you can make money also

Telling that to the NCAA would be like going to the judge and saying "yes your honor, I was doing 70 in the 45 but they built a new highway beside that road with a 70mph speed limit. Can you let me off for breaking the speed limit on the old road because on the new one I could have driven that fast legally?"
Well since we're talking court. Some places that made weed legal, released or dropped pending charges for minor weed offenses even though it was illegal at the time of the offense...

I honestly don't believe we'll get anything. We got rid of all the coaches, players, admin involved in that. It's certainly no different than what LSU has done recently, as well as many others, and no one has gotten any kind of penalty.
Same thing I said in another thread. I don't think they're going to do anything because it's already a slippery slope since we got rid of those involved, playing short of scholarships this year and the fact other teams weren't punished. Then mix in people trying to form super conferences...if that happens you'll see the top teams playing in those and I guess NCAA will handle D2 or whatever...

NCAA will wait until 1 second is left in the bowl game with Tennessee winning and send a representative down to the field to stop the game and inform everyone the the opponent will be awarded with the bowl game victory. They will also require the team to return their bowl gifts whenever they get back to the hotel. And they will not reimburse Tennessee for any expenses incurred during the trip.
You forgot to mention that the toilet in the dressing room AND in the hotel rooms will be stopped up.

With one second left???? This is Tennessee, remember. They take games away from us after the officials declare the game OVER 😔. Remember North Carolina?
To be fair to the referees, I didn’t know the 10 second runoff was not a rule in college at the time. I was always aware of it from watching NFL games. I was at that game and was just as outraged as everyone else. I just assumed college had the same rule in place but after finding out that was not the case I deflected my outrage toward the NCAA instead of the referees. It’s such a simple rule to have in place and yet it took Tennessee being on the short end of the stick for them to make a rule change to mirror the NFL. We always have whacky stuff happen to us, in every sport it seems unfortunately.

All we can do as a program is win games. The rest will take care of itself. If we do that, even a Bowl Ban this season doesn’t impact recruiting as much if we have created enough positive buzz as an exciting and upcoming team. Play well enough to EARN a bowl. The actual bowl then is great, but not necessary
Exactly. Beating up on Northwest Mississippi School of the Deaf in the Texarkana Little Debbie bowl really isn’t a big loss this year. Next year might be a different story.

The ncaa is saying they are going to hand down punishment to "multiple" teams "soon", I think it mostly relates to basketball programs, but I'm wondering if our judgment (if any) will be made at that time as well.

NCAA doesnt have the Tennessee case yet.

It wont. All players will not benefit from NIL. Hence, underr table payments will still occur imo
Sure they can and it's simple.
Booster Bob from Bob's Used Cars, hey we want this guy, pay him $2000 for his NIL for a poster to go in the window of your dealership for a couple of days with buy from Bob's on it

Any smart program isn't going to use bags when they can use NIL to get it done on the so called up and up

ā€œBob, if you give Jimmy John $25,000, we’ve got great seats in the sky box for you at all FB games.ā€

Why not just forfeit to Bama this year and declare that punishment. Wouldn’t have to travel to that place. Bama would have to refund tickets. Hotels in Tuscaloosa would lose revenue and we’d hav the L anyway.

You will find out most players wont get squat from boosters. Certainly for fringe players. Everyday fans will need to help them. If they get any help

Guess we'll see but if we were paying fringe players with McDonalds bag then TN even worse off than I thought

elite players are getting the deals. Unless a school has someone like the dude at Miami that will cough up $600 per player on the roster per month then most players are getting nothing, unless you have fans funnel them a little something. The guy at Miami is the only place I've heard that has done something like that. Have you heard of others?

I think UT should just come out and say sitting out last years liberty bowl was for the violations. The ncaa is so dumb they may fall for it . šŸ˜†
And it may not even be dumb. There were probably a handful of reasons the administration chose to forego a bowl game at the end of last season. One of them, and maybe not the smallest one, may have been directly related to the still-evolving scandal and investigation.

At the time, I pondered it a bit, came up with three possibilities pretty quickly:
-- covid
-- 3-7 maybe doesn't merit a bowl (even if it would equate to 6-6 in normal year)
-- scandal, ongoing investigation, possible involvement of the entire coaching staff and several players

There are probably others. But the scandal--what one might call a self-imposed penalty while exploring its breadth--is certainly one of the top 3.

They notified them it was due to covid. People need to just stop trying to make it something else. It ain't changing.
