Where do we stand on the bowl ban?

Yes we know the NCAA is a joke and will die soon. Whilst dying, it is going to do its best to unnecessarily drag UT through the mud via sheer apathy while the guilty parties bring coffee to real New York Giants coaches and play middle linebacker for Alabama and running back for Oklahoma.

We should have taken it last year but Phil was trying to save his job and Pruitt's at that point. By saying we were taking it then saying no due to covid we got a bowl ban with no benefit towards any NCAA penalty.

They should back-date the bowl ban to last year. We turned down an invitation. The guilty parties were all on campus then. I know that ain't happening, but we can always try to weasel out of it.

It would be nice. I mean, we canned the coach, the AD resigned, we declined a bowl invite, and then lost several of the good players on the team to the transfer portal and are competing in the SEC with barely more scholarship players than an FCS team. The fallout has already been as bad as probation.

And if this team gets bowl-eligible, they damn well deserve to be able to go.

Paying these jokers every day. I wonder what else could they possibly be waiting on with the administration.

We've only been to 4 bowls in 10 years, can we just retroactively call that a mega-bowl ban self punishment?

From what I've heard, the administration has decided to take a "wait and see" approach, considering all of the NCAA upheaval with NIL. I think the leagues are supposed to meet this month and discuss the NCAA's role in college athletics going forward. I know there's a lot of pushback over the rulebook and many programs want it to basically be re-written so that it's more reasonable and more manageable. How this all will affect Tennessee, who knows but I think we are wanting to see what comes from this first before any decisions are made.
With the nil and money and benefits being given above board. NCAA sanctions should be a moot point regarding Tennessee.

Yes, but NIL should prevent the need for McDonalds bags

Telling that to the NCAA would be like going to the judge and saying "yes your honor, I was doing 70 in the 45 but they built a new highway beside that road with a 70mph speed limit. Can you let me off for breaking the speed limit on the old road because on the new one I could have driven that fast legally?"

That's a really good analogy, Army. Thanks for it.

Self imposing a bowl ban while making a bowl is still a possibility this season would be a huge slap in the face to players
Agree. Player and fan revolt if they tee that up. NCAA a joke and with NIL stuff now allowed, the longer it plays out the more likely its the impact of LSU basketball investigation.
