I am trying to not react in emotions and get as down after today as we were all up after last week. Still, I am wondering about the road ahead. Obviously, it looks like we'll lose to Florida next week, but then there's (what should be) a winnable game against Ohio. Then comes the heart of our SEC schedule (Auburn, Georgia, Bammer, etc).

To be competitive and have a shot in those games, what needs to happen? A lot of people are calling for Crompton's benching, but can Stephens do better? What can we do to mask weaknesses and find strengths to take us to victories against SEC teams?

There better be something, or it's going to be a long, tough year against SEC competition. Thoughts?

Kiffin said that they will put the best players on the field. That means that Stephen is worse than Crompton. So if he puts him in then the outcome might be even worse than what it would have been with Crompton. I wish everyone would judt trust this coaching staff and see what happens. I know if Phil was still here the game prob wouldnt have even been as close as it was today.

My post wasn't implying distrust of the coaches. I was actually just trying to imagine what it's like to be in their shoes tonight. What do you do to fix this?

im still on the Lane Train! I love it when before the season folks say we will be a 5-8 win team then we blow out an awful opponent and all the season we are up to 9-11 wins and a loss to a team very comparable to us and we are now a 4-6 win team again.

Much like Saban's first year at Bama, we're looking at a 6 or 7 win season. There's nothing we can do about it. We don't have the talent to beat Florida, Alabama, or Ole Miss.

This is a rebuilding year, and anyone who knows anything about college football understands that.

It doesn't get much worse than what Crompton did today.

i doubt crompton would be the starting QB on any other team in the SEC right now....looks to me like he'd be the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th string on just about all other teams...

We bounce back and play better than we did last year after we lost to UCLA...

That's about all we can do.

kiffin does not have 2 qb that can make plays. if kiffin knew that stephens would have played better i think he would have played him.

the fact is that we have poor qb's, it's going to be a long season.

i know i shouldn't say it but....
NEXT YEAR. we will have get that freshman ready fast. i don't think stephens will improve much. it could be 2 years before we see any good QB improvement.

I got up, got my shower, put on my cloths, and my VOLS visor. I must of had five phone calls from friends asking this same thing today. I am no doctor, and can't tell anyone how to get over a loss, but I can tell you what I told all of them. We just hired a new staff you have to give them time to put in a new O, a new D. We all new there would be growing pains, that's all this is. The good thing about things that are broke is they can be fixed. The staff and the Vols will get it together, maybe not next week, but they will in time get it together. So to answer your question, Were do we go? Long term, I would say up.

No, that is not all that this is. If we had one less INT or a few more completed passes, we win that game. We win it ugly, but we win it. Bad QB play was the only bad thing I saw yesterday, and it cost us the game. People can blame the offensive line all they want, but when the other team KNOWS that you are going to run every time you snap it, then it's really difficult to stop 8 men in the box. Our QB couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his throws, and UCLA knew it. The trickle down effect hurt. I'm still amazed at Hardesty and Brown for getting the yards that they got.

I think he said they would play the players they thought were the best.. I'm not so sure he/they are right after yesterday though..

I am thinking that pressure the UCLA DL put on Crompton is more of an issue than the run blocking.

Hahaha you honestly think that defensive pressure up front had anything to do with how bad Crompton played? You're delusional if you do. When he did throw it, I thought he had plenty of time. He had to scramble around a few times, but again, when you have a few guys rushing in addition to the normal 3 or 4 guys, then it tends to wear on the OL.

We accept the fact it's going to take a while before we're very good. Support the team and players, but have realistic expectations.

No he isn't. Crompton's bad play was magnified by pathetic pass protection on the part of the OL.

Ok ... I'm not saying that the OL played well. But, you could've put an NFL caliber OL out there, and it wouldn't have mattered. They had every linebacker up on the line basically and were rushing most of them b/c they knew we weren't going to throw or, if we did, there was a greater chance that it would be completed to their team. The OL was getting drilled every play. By the second half, that starts to wear on you, and, consequently, you look poor. Again, if you look at Crompton's 3 INT (really should've been 5), I didn't think the OL contributed to any of those. Just BAD passes or BAD routes... to each their own.

The coaches hands are pretty much tied at this point.they have to play with the hand they are delt.there is no quick fix there isnt a coach in the country that make this any better. All we can do now is go with the flow look whats up the road and wish it would hurry up get here.

That's probably the best summation possible. We wear our orange, yell for the vols, and hope for the best as the coaches try everything they can. It just seems that, with not QB fix in sight for a year or two, it's all just rearranging chairs on the Titanic
