I'll try to keep this relatively short. Also, this isn't another coach search thread. Skip to the TL
R for my real question.
Obviously the heat has been turned up on Jones because of the absolute dud we put up against Georgia and to a lesser extent UMass. Everything that could have possibly gone wrong for us in that game did go wrong for us. We don't have the talent or coaches to overcome that, particularly not against another very good team. I know most of here want Butch fired, but most of us on here knew that 8-4 was the most realistic outcome for this season, and every national outlet had us at that or worse. Right now we've won the ones we were supposed to win, and lost the ones we were supposed to lost. That not acceptable, but Butch is nothing if not consistent. Everything has looked really ugly as well, win or lose. Regardless, what do we do from here?
Let's take a look at the rest of the season, and what we should do.
First things first, I say you have to use this bye week to prepare JG as the starter. I want to like QD, but he is just not a fit for this offense and our coaches are far too stubborn to tailor it to his skill sets. I think he is talented (obviously has to stop starring down WR and throwing off his back foot), but he would be most successful is a different offense. Like Peterman. I say we just take our lumps and growing pains with a freshman QB and build for the future.
The rest of the schedule only features one sure-fire loss and a bunch of winnable games. Let's just ignore Alabama, they seem to be on another level again. South Carolina hasn't looked good this year, should have lost to LA Tech, lost to A&M, lost to Kentucky at Home. Coming off a bye, and we will be there 7th game in a row, we should have a leg up, plus it is at home. Their rush offense isn't very good, so it will depend on our secondary. Kentucky is probably our most likely loss of the remaining games not named Alabama. Even still they've still struggled against every team they've played. Highest margin of victory this year is 11 of a FCS team. They aren't spectacular on Offense or defense but the are decent at both. It is at Kentucky this year which doesn't help. Southern Miss should be a win, as well as Missouri. Vandy will play us tough as always, still good on D, but not quite as good as last year. Better on offense thanks in large part to Kyle Shummur, but Ralph Webb has not looked good at all this year. LSU is in as big of a mess as we are, if not worse. That game could decide which coach gets the can if it hasn't already been decided by that point.

R - If we win out besides Alabama, big if, does that change anyone's mind if we are sitting at the end of November at 9-3 going to a decent bowl game with a shot at 10 wins and a really good recruiting class? Now that we are coming to a winnable part of our schedule, do you stick with the more experienced QB or do you build for the future with JG and maybe lose a game we should have won?
