While there has been no scientific experiment that has been able to produce a self replicating cell, there are a number of researchers that are pursuing it. It's a process.
There are, however a number of theories. Are you familiar with the "RNA world theory?" I think that is the predominant theory.
In my opinion, it disproves the Bible. It definitely does not disprove a higher power.
The Bible is supposed to be a historical text. IMO, proving parts of it true means nothing if it's not all true. My view is that people adapt, and when something in it is proven wrong, they write it off as being a part of the book that is not meant to be taken literally. That's fine, but that's not how I view it.

I'm going to try to steer this thread away from the attacks, and back to the life question (sort of).
For those who are Christians, I have heard a theory that I thought was interesting pertaining to the flood. Those that were the "wicked" were actually the offspring of the angels who came to earth and did the deed with women (Bible clearly states this)... and Noah's family was the last of the "untainted". God decided this was an abomination and made the flood to wipe them out.
