Okay, let's start over. It's been proven that amino acids, one of the three essentials to life can be formed through non-organic processes. You recognize this?

While there has been no scientific experiment that has been able to produce a self replicating cell, there are a number of researchers that are pursuing it. It's a process.

There are, however a number of theories. Are you familiar with the "RNA world theory?" I think that is the predominant theory.

If we have this discussion when I'm not at work, I could try to find a more reliable source, but wikipedia is generally pretty reliable for a major topic like this, and this wiki article is well cited:

RNA world theroy I've heard of but not looked into. Something to do tonight i guess.

One concept that I struggle with is consciousness. And that is the primary reason that I retain a higher power as a strong possibility. AFAIK, there aren't very many great theories to explain where consciousness comes from.

What's really interesting is how our consciousness affects our surroundings. i.e. the whole "if a tree falls in the woods" question and quantum mechanics.

I believe in God simply because of faith in a higher power. However, I also think that science is an amazing thing. I don't see why this has to be a "pick a side" debate. As others have pointed out, science neither proves or disproves the existence of God. I find elements of religion and science to be fascinating.

I know I'm not the only Christian who thinks this, but I don't think every single word that describes the origin of life in the Bible is literally true. To me, the Bible is a set of expectations and guidelines to living life. It provides a meaning to life. Do I believe in God? Yes. Many aspects and events of the Bible have been proven at least partially true. For the science aspect of understanding our surroundings, however, we have modern science texts and theories. Both fascinate me in their own ways, and I don't see much conflict in the two subjects, personally.

The Bible is supposed to be a historical text. IMO, proving parts of it true means nothing if it's not all true. My view is that people adapt, and when something in it is proven wrong, they write it off as being a part of the book that is not meant to be taken literally. That's fine, but that's not how I view it.

I respect that. Admittedly, my perspective is different than most, but I've thought a great deal about the concept and developed my own way of thinking which may or may not be right. But I'm cool with anybody's beliefs as long as no one is personally attacked.

I'm going to try to steer this thread away from the attacks, and back to the life question (sort of).

For those who are Christians, I have heard a theory that I thought was interesting pertaining to the flood. Those that were the "wicked" were actually the offspring of the angels who came to earth and did the deed with women (Bible clearly states this)... and Noah's family was the last of the "untainted". God decided this was an abomination and made the flood to wipe them out.

Possible or bs?

Read the book of enoc. Christ quotes it as scripture so it can be trusted IMO.

Got to get back on road. Will say more later. It's a good read. There are several good "what if" books dealing with the subject if you like to read wild stuff. Will post titles later if you want.
