Where are they now - the lost recruits...

He got promoted? Cool

Actually it was a demotion!! He started out as the #16 sample giver. Was in charge of all nut samples and lentl soup. That was too much to handle for a guy who has 11 college credits in 3 years at 4 schools, so to the greeter line he went. His name tag says "Keese".

Lutcher's Rolando Melancon dismissed from Louisiana Tech football team | NOLA.com

This is a no-namer, but he was a four-star d tackle recruit for Fulmer. Fulmer did get lazy on his evals there at the end. Look where the player ended up.

neggawhat - You're an idiot dude...go look at the roster from 2008 and you will not be able to say "Fulmer got lazy on his evals"

12 players currently STARTING in the NFL (2 Pro Bowlers). Say that he made a bad OC hire, or the rest of the SEC caught up in recruiting but stop with the "got lazy" BS.

Something else worth pointing out is that Bama, Michigan, and Nebraska were also in on this kid.

I would be willing to bet that you have never met Phil Fulmer discounting your opinion 100%.

I did meet CPF, and I like the man. That being said he did get lazy toward the end. Look back at our recruiting classes from '07-'09 and you tell me what percentages of recruits made it. Cause and effect relationship will then help explain why we've had no Junior and Senior classes the last two years.

what are you talking about? Go look at his 2007 and 08 recruiting classes, minus EB, its horrible. My point was about those last couple recruiting classes, not the roster his last couple of years.

And by the way, as a Maryville kid, I have met him, been at his house, and sat at the dinner table with him.

Definitely not a no-namer... He dominated the Army H.S. All-American game that he played in. Unfortunately, just didn't pan out, but he was a stud, no doubt.

IIRC, we also were in the final running for Dequan McKenzie (is that right? The starting CB for Bama) up until the end when Kiffin left... I might be mistaken, but he was a JUCO guy

I thought he was in charge of inventory in outdoor sports til they caught him eyeing the firearm section while rubbing his chin thoughtfully

no-namer now, that's for dam sure. Just saying. Any way, I thought it was funny or ironic or whatever that Dooley coached him.

Clawsen was not the cause of Fulmer's mess... he was a victim of it. Whatever the cause, for his last several years he was outrecruited and outcoached by guys like Saban, Miles, Meyer, and Richt. His latter teams were not disciplined on or off the field. Those things did not begin with the hiring of Clawsen.

I honestly don't think Clawsen had any idea how little real talent he had to work with.

Im not putting ALL the blame on clawsen, but how can you honestly defend the claw-fense... My eyes have never hurt as bad as they did watching that wretched "offense". He was clearly not cut out for the SEC in any shape or form... That became painstakingly obviously as the season progressed.

You are correct, a lot of people thought we were going to end up with Menzie. There is definitely enough talent that went else where that could have won us a few extra games. Our Defense would have been crazy good if we would have got these five guys to stick with us (or choose us in one case, but I am pretty sure Jones was coming here):

Dequan Menzie
Michael Taylor
Christian Jones
DT Shackleford
Bruce Irvin

I do like where we are now though, players like Justin Coleman, AJ and Maggit getting experience last year should really help in the upcoming seasons.

interesting...I too am a Maryville kid and broke bread with the coach and family as well. (class of 2000)

My opinion still remains, coach did not get "lazy" he still worked as hard as ever for a fan base that wanted to poop on him every chance they got. Fulmer set the standard for winning in the SEC at UT and our fan base wanted more...now look what that got us (mediocrity at best and irrelevance)

enough said on the topic, it just seems like a very "michael moore" type of tactic to point to one recruit of one class and say "see I told you"

Dre Kirkpatrick's commitment was everything that's wrong with the world

The two guys who always stick out to me on Saturdays are Sam Montgomery & Eddie Lacy.

That Kiffin year I remember there being a lot of hoopla about them on signing day maybe picking us.

They are both very very good players where they are at.

Also will never forget the Dre Kirkpatrick commitment. Dont know if we were even a player but that was the same year and he kept pulling bags out of bags out of bags, then finally had this really stupid Alabama flat bill. Dont know why but that one sticks with me.

Shoulda been around when Derric Evans signed his LOI from a Hot Tub while drinking a glass of wine and then promptly robbed some video stores. We older Vols remember that from back in the Johnny Majors days.

Well, I'm sure we know each other then. Again, you missed the point, look at those last couple of recruiting classes, they are not very good. I didn't point out one recruit, I'm talking about the complete classes. Now CPF 1990s classes are legendary.

Hating on Michael Moore is spoken like a true Maryvillian. I'm one of the 1% in that town. Like you said, enough on this topic. I just wanted to say whatsup :peace2:

Scroggins riding pine at USC...rumored to be transferring. Nick Montana struggled at Washington and is transfering to JUCO in Northern Cali, Heaps lost starting job at BYU and transfered to Kansas. Brunetti left BC and went to Ole Piss. Struggling imo. Nukeese is a greeter at Costco in Syracuse New York. Mike Edwards is starting at Hawaii. Janzen is in the clouds!!

I thought nick Montana played for
Montana when we player them.

Yea, Janzen Jackson is currently at McNeese St and ranked by McShay as the overall #4 FS for this years 2012 NFL draft! My head would be in the clouds too!

Patrick Willis was a Tennessee guy we told that we didn't want in testament to CPF's recruiting prowess...was from Bruceton, TN--wanted to go to UT--but was told no....went to Ole Miss--All-SEC, All-Pro, you get the picture...EPIC FAIL on Fulmer's part...

He woulda been our next Al Wilson!
