First off, congrats on the win tonight VolNation! Your guys looked pretty good...sorry that our defense completely laid an egg in this one.
Just so you have some history on my posts here:
I originally picked 34-27 UT, but then changed to 24-21 State after the DR news. I thought it would be more of a low scoring, field position game for the most part.
My analysis of the game:
1) Vols definitely looked like a good football team tonight. Hope you guys keep getting better and have a special season.
2) Bray had a great game. His deep ball obviously killed us, and we were never really able to get enough pressure on him to disrupt him. Kudos to your O-line for that.
3) Amerson, and the secondary as a whole, had several major breakdowns. I credit UT for making some great plays, but there's no excuse for our guys being so out of position and taking horrible pursuit angles to the ball carrier. I'm thinking these guys got a little cocky with all the hype and paid the price against a great passing attack.
4) Our O-line wasn't able to do much of anything. Yes, our main suckage was in the secondary, but we had very little run blocking and Glennon consistently had too many guys chasing him down.
5) Glennon had an off game with the picks. But as I said above, he was dealing with a lot of pressure most of the night. Credit that to UT's rush beating our blocking.
Overall, I didn't think it was a disaster for State. Despite the major breakdowns, they were able to stay in the game score-wise. Not as close as I thought, but certainly not a 30 point blowout either. I think we will bee able to learn a lot from a game like this and improve for the remainder of our schedule. In the long run, a loss like this may do more for our team than destroying some weak 1-AA team in week 1.
Again, congrats to VolsNation, good luck on the rest of the season, and thanks for letting me post here! :hi:
***EDIT: Forgot to mention CP! He was outstanding!
Keep posting here.. Good luck again rest of the year..
