When you arrived at VN?

How did you get started Freak? Must be pretty cool to have arguably the best fan site in CFB.

I've told the story before, but I first started the site so I could have an @Volnation email address. :)

When I first arrived at VN Kiffin had left and I was trying to get more info on potential hires. Prior to that I only read GVX but VN has surplanted that role and them some. It's funny now a year later I am on reading about DC's.
My question to all of VN is what brought you in and what was going on with UT when you did. Pretty easy to see why we stay and spend so much time here but I thought it would be interesting to look back to when we had our first VN experience.

I was just the opposite. I started checking out VN when Kiffin came to Tennessee and frequented the site more and more as he raised the program's recruiting profile. Whatever you feel about Kiffin, he did make things interesting... and that legacy continues here for the better I think.

Fresno St. Week is Finally Here!
August 26, 2003
The pre-season hype is finally over. No more scrimmages. No more talk. It's time to take the field. Right now players and fans alike can envision their team winning a conference title or even a National Championship. The dream of what could be is at its peak. Could this be the year? Could this be one of those "special" teams?

Before the season begins we analyze the players, the coaches, the incoming freshman, and about everything else you could imagine. In the last couple of weeks we have covered it all: Will we have enough depth at Defensive line with the injuries to Justin Harrell and JT Mapu? Will Mondre Dickerson come to play after not performing well in practice? Who is Matt McGlothin (the walk-on d-lineman)? Which of the Freshman receivers will step up and contribute, especially after the season ending injury to Robert Meachem? How will James Banks do and will he play WR or QB? Who will play corner opposite Jabari Greer...Brandon Johnson, Antwan Stewart, or Jason Allen? Who will backup Cedric Houston at Tailback ...Gerald Riggs, or Jabari Davis? Will Kevin Burnett be healthy enough to play? We have covered just about all of these topics in our Message Forum. Now we get to see how it plays out. It's now officially "Football Time in Tennessee".

Headline from the earliest archived VN page I could find in a quick search. Hard to believe all that was 7 years ago.

That Jabari Davis was a stud. It's great to see a guy with so little "potential" from the recruiting crowd accomplish so much. A true inspiration, he wanted it before it was cool to want it.

I started reading and following daily right before fulmer was fired but didn't get a membership until fairly recently when i decided to start giving input.

Joined VN in 06' after a year of lurking, found the site looking for recruiting info, the board has grown leaps and bounds since then which is both good and bad, either way Freak is a mastermind and has created something to be extremely proud of. Props to you Freak.

Merry Christmas VOL fans and GO BIG ORANGE !!!

I joined either during the debate over whether Buzz should be fired or right afterwards. I joined in March, 2005.

EDIT: Apparently, I joined in February, 2005. OK, then Buzz was obviously still the coach.

I was on the ESPN message board for Tennessee, and then I found this. Enough said.

When I joined here, people were pumped about Bruce Pearl and Tennessee basketball. I believe we blew a 20 point lead to Greg Oden and Ohio St in the Sweet 16.

Also, everyone was still pissed off about our disgraceful showing in the Outback Bowl vs Penn St. The anti-Fulmer sentiments were reaching an all-time high after we let a slow, unathletic, mediocre Penn St team push us around.

I joined first 11-5-05 vol in ar, after losing to Notre Dame, and complained about special teams..

Then didn't really catch onto VN until the following year, where I joined again as vol_in_ar, 9-2-05 couldn't remember the sign in and PW from the previous year

Then moved to IL in '09, and now I'm vol_in_il

it's a great site......

Freak should give me another Star, and count my single post from '05

Merry Christmas

Originally found this site while bored in the dorm room. I was looking for recruiting info and came across it in a google search. There was good info from guys like hvwarrior and I was hooked. I mostly just read, but the addiction to come here has grown daily.

I came on right before the Clawfence was going to bring us back and have another decent season!

And Jonathan Cromptard was going to be the savior. That UCLA game was maybe the worst swing I've ever had mentally over a 3 hour period, from high hopes to absolute dejection. That was also the last time I ventured to guarantee a Vols win over a BCS conference opponent.

I typed in "vol message board" in google in spring 2008, fell in love with it, and joined in July 2008. Now my favorite website and I check it every single day. I love it.

I first started looking at this website after we beat Wisconsin in the outback bowl, but I didn't become a member until after Kiffin was hired, in fact my very first post was in the Mike Rozier thread. Thanks Freak, I love this website.
