There's a guy with a radio show down here, Dan Silio. He played for the Hurricanes and a bit in the NFL. Broadcasts I think out of the Tampa area, or at least he is Florida based.

We was talking about the 'canes the other day and said that he was tired of talk of speculation and moral victories, and wanted the 'canes to get back to what he considered a successful year, which he defined as 10 or more wins.

If 10 wins is the measure, when do you think UT will be successful again?

And if its some other measure, i.e. an SEC championship or a BCS bowl, how would you desrcibe the measure and when do the Vols get there?

This year? 2010? 2011?

If ten wins is the standard i'd go along with 2011...for me 10 wins isn't what I need to see in regard to a succesful season

If 10 wins doesn't equate to success, when do you think we'll next win the SEC, or make it to another BCS bowl?

I'd say 10 wins in 2011 is very possible, if not likely.

It depends on the team. This year's team, 8 wins would be very successful. Probably the same for next year.

For Florida this year, nothing less than undefeated.

For Kentucky, six or seven wins will be a big success.
etc.

When lawgators cease to exist...:)

Seriously though...I expect us to be as talented as anyone we face by 2011...which will likely result in 10 wins if you include the bowl game...

But I think 2012 is the year when we are truly back in the upper tier of the SEC and a legit contender for championships

Well, its all relative when you put a win total on it. To win 9 (minimum) regular season, you can only lose 3. In 2010 and 2011, UT plays the following both years:

Florida
Georgia
Bama
LSU
Oregon
South Carolina

You've got to at least go 3-3 through that stretch, and I see nothing to point to UF, Bama, UGA, or LSU taking a significant step back anytime soon. All 4 have dominated SEC recruiting for the past 2 years, and are at it again for 2010. If 10 wins is to happen in 2011, some big dogs will have to fall. Not saying it can't or won't happen, mind you.

I think the current staff is going to do more with less this season but the cupboard is bare at a couple of positions and the team is very young at alot of skill positions. If they do better than last year, then I'd call it successful. I want to see steady improvement culminating in a conference championship within five seasons. If the Vols manage to run the table this year, then that's fine too.

2011/2012 (2012 being at the latest). i think 2010 is going to be an average year where we are still going to be playing catch-up. by 2011 10 wins is within reason for sure and 2012 we should/can be right up there with UF in the East and competing for SEC and likewise Nation Championships. I give it four years before we are where we want to be, no sooner IMO. sorry guys.

To me a successful season is a minimum ten win season, a trip to the SEC championship, and/or a BCS bowl appearance. Anything less than that and you are accepting mediocrity.

I will accept moral victories this year and perhaps next year. However starting in 2011 and beyond I think we should start expecting more.

FWIW, if the question were asked of me, I'd say 10 wins OR an SEC championship to me would be successful. And I think a five year timeframe is more than reasonable on that.

Next year is going to be so unusual. Florida has to go to UT and is going to be without Tebow and the defense will be almost entirely new. But UT will likely have its own gaping holes, too.

A good sign will be when you start posting less and making yourself very scarce around here.

For me (at least in this first year) success for me will be shown with play, heart, drive, and running of the system on the field. Doing these things will keep us competitive and I think that 8 or 9 wins this season would reflect that.
I do think we will get what many will call an upset and I hate to say it but I don't think it will come against Florida, however I don't feel that that game is going to be a blowout...it'll be a lot closer than Fl and it's fans will like.
I think Georgia and Alabama will need to watch out...I think we take one of them. 2011 will be IMO when the recruits and system truly get implemented and those 10 win seasons and battle for the SEC Title start to come to fruition.
