Think about this . Everyone is saying Tebow is the best maybe ever . He can't get drafted in the top rounds because he never takes a snap from under center. Coaches don't know if he can go through his progressions as he's dropping back. You're a top QB recruit coming out next year . . . Would you go somewhere that might kill your draft status?

I know they are winning titles but most recruits want the NFL and the money. It will be interesting to see how it works out the next couple of years. Tebow is the first great one coming out of the Fl spread . When all the draft guys start breaking down why he's not a #1 pick it might open some eyes.

Being a great college football player isn't a bad thing. They are winning at an amazing level. why would they diss what they got going?

It's a double-edged sword to go to UF. They are winning NC's right now but they aren't producing too many pro-bowlers or really any big time names in the NFL right now.

Since FL doesn't pursue the prototypical NFL dropback signal caller it won't matter. They'll find another poor man's Tim Tebow or Alex Smith again. Somebody who is a fairly accurate passer, but is geared towards a physical game and can take the abuse. And they'll continue to win and win and win...:banghead2:

I'm not sure Meyer's offensive system gets enough credit outside of Utah, Alachua Co. and coming soon.. Starkville.

This is a prime example of a key arguement in the Pro vs Spread discussion. IMO the spread offense in the long run will hurt your program in the recruiting area. Building a program based on the NFL model will be the best thing CLK could ever do for UT.

The true question is will the spread ever make it to the NFL with the top high schools moving more to the spread and more and more colleges. I don't see it happening but with that many athletes running it who knows.

If they continue with their current defensive philosophy and keep Charlie Strong on staff, they will at least have a defense year in and out that will cause problems for the rest of the us in the SEC regardless of what their offense does.

the spread limits teams to certain types of players. a traditional balanced pro style system allows u to go out and get more guys. meyer has to recruit to his system while we can have a legit shot at anybody because of our system. results on the field will lead us back to perennial top signing classes and top 10 finishes

That is why most programs running it are the ones that don't recruit well anyway. That is where it all started. Florida is the only big time school that runs the true spread.

Tim Tebow is great but Percy Harvin is the guy that makes that offense explosive. And every WR recruit has watched him get fed the ball in open space, and that is what they all want. I don't think we'll be competing for qb's with Florida, but we will compete for guys at every other position. So I don't think Tebow's draft status will effect our recruits nearly as much as we would like it to.

Fulmer did that as well, Kiffin is hopefully just going to do it better with his nfl staff coming in. One reason (there are others I'm sure) that Fulmer played more upper-classmen, because pro style is ideally more complex than spread, but obviously both can be revamped to fit your personnel.

I feel Fla. Offense will change a little this year because Tebow dosen't like to be told he doesn't have the drop back skills, watch and see if they don't run some I Formations and ACE sets some this fall to show a different skill set with Tebow. I don't think he will have a problem with dropping back into the pocket and passing. He is NCAA Football History in the making!

While Tebow's draft status may still be in question, the last guy to run Urban's offense fared pretty well on selection day. I don't think having the #1 pick followed by a Heisman Trophy winner and national champion is going to hurt him very badly.

Seriously if he can feed all the starving kids in the Philippines then slap his hands together like Mr. Miyagi and heal Harvin's ankle just in time to crane kick the Tide in the SECCG, I think he'll adjust to reading NFL defenses just fine. After all it's only football, and he can fix your whole life in 5 minutes.

High Schools are going "spread" too. This gives the teams in the college ranks that run the "spread" more QB's to pick from.

Day in and Day Out. I'd take a Dan Marino or Peyton Manning over a Michael Vick or Tim Tebow.

The only Pro team, that runs a variation of the Spread is the Dolphins. Basically they use the Wildcat to setup play action. One of the few teams that can run it effective. The reason, SPEED. NFL defenses are really fast. This is one reason Baltimore shut them down. I could see Tebow going to a team like Miami that uses the Wildcat. He would actually prob be good in that package.

One good thing about all this is that its been said time after time the spread wont work in the nfl, mainly due to the speed and the fact that most qbs wouldnt last more than 3-4 games taking the hits they would take. So with MK new schemes we should be able to shut it down.

It's not really going that far out on a limb to prefer two of the most prolific quarterbacks in NFL history to a convict and a college junior. It is also beside the point. The fact that Florida's offense isn't typical NFL style isn't going to hurt them recruiting.

ive been trying to think of a former college quaterback that plays like tebow to see how their game translated to the nfl but havent came up with anything...dont really think we can say what tebow can do in the nfl till we see it but im ready for him to be out of the sec. florida recruiting spread quaterbacks keeps us from having to compete with them for pro-style quaterbacks which is fine with me just like to beat them every now and then
