When will Mike Hamilton be fired?

Will or when Mike Hamilton be fired?

Not this year or anytime soon. I think it's best for us if he stays anyway as him and CDD and CBP have a great relationship.

What does this have to do with anything?

Them being buddies only puts him in a position where "his" tenure is based on "their" success.

Hell, I like to drink a beer and hang out with a lot of folks, but I'm not willing to hire them.

Lastly, what are you basing this on? What he said at some press conference?

and seriously guys, with this whole North Carolina thing.....let it go. Its not 1998.

Dooley will have to win this year to save Hamilton. Hamilton will be replaced late Nov or early Dec unless CDD can win now.

I was watching Talkin Football on CSS and they all think its a matter of time before Hamilton gets the ax. Especially since he is chickening out of the North Carolina contract. Hamilton just makes mistake after mistake as the AD. The only positive thing he has done right is hire Bruce Pearl. So how long do you all give him before being fired?

after this NC stunt, I hope he goes soon. sadly though it will be a few years, unless we just have losing seasons 3-4 years in a row.

How much does not having a Univ President affect all of this?

A ton. It is really Hamilton's saving grace today. The NCAA LOI might trump this but we will just have to wait and see.

And also for the ones trying to scare anyone from change by saying Fulmer will be the replacement AD - there is no chance of that happening. The future new AD will be someone like Tim Priest but no way Fulmer would get the job or even considered.

Well, I like him personally. I think he has done a very good job. I don’t think it was his decision only, at least not without hearing it from Dooley first. I think if so he needs to lean toward what the Head coach wants. Just my opinion but that is what the site is about I guess....:hi:

First, I think the main reason Mike Hamilton wanted to push back the UNC game is based on recruiting. This is one of the main areas we recruit. The area from Raleigh to Columbia, SC over to Charlotte and even Asheville where we lost Pagan to Florida, has always produced many great players for the Vols. Example, Albert Hainesworth South Carolina native, Omar Gaither Charlotte area and Leonard Little, Asheville and Heath Shuler western North Carolina. As you can see this area is important and all you have to do is look at the Brandon Willis situation to understand it can become a problem. Why? First Butch Davis was the U's coach and left there for the NFL. He didn't step back. Next, with his defense all he needs is functioning quaterback and they could be damn good!! This is also why one of our famous but infamous native sons, Steve Spurrier piped up, because he is trying to give us a black eye in this recruiting area to benefit SCjr. As far as Mike Hamilton being fired, it goes without saying he'll be fired as long as you keep the pressure on! I look at this situation from afar, he hired Bruce Pearl when nobody in basketball would give him a chance because, he was a whistle blower and you know the world of college sports hates that because, if you can't recruit without cheating then you can't win. Next, he did something I'm not sure was in the best interest of UT football by firing Fulmer. I'm sure now I'm labeled a Fulmerite. Not the case! I saw what you all saw coming. It seemed he had become complacent and spent too much time trying to keep up the university image as a soundbite instead being the innovator he was on offense and why he was hired to begin with. If you relive all of his downfall, his mistake was not taking Ryan Mallet as a transfer and the coach with him. He choose to compete with Urban Meyer at his game and hired Clawson and his Clawfense that was doomed from the beginning. Incompatible to the style we're used to playing which is pro-style. Now here's a twist; who started the first black quaterback in the SEC? Who really originated the concept of the spread in the SEC? Why did I sit in Neyland Stadium back in the late 70's to see Jimmy Streater run Notre Dame off the field! On a side note a friend of mine from our little ole high school buried up here in the mountains of East Tenn had an interception in that game. If you want Mike Hamilton fired, You'll fire him, because the fan base does have a voice. But, I think stability and guess what, the same ole same ole, IMAGE and the good things about Tennessee and UT sells recruits not big name coaches with long resumes. Derek Dooley won't succeed unless he can't recruit or coach and the looks of last years class he salvaged and added to it with Hunter and Rogers says he can recruit. I'm about willing to bet if he has any of his pop in him he'll win and big. Give these guys a chance fellas take the good with the bad and learn not too be to critical!!! Looking forward to the beginning of the season!! Go Vols.

I can suit up with the best of them and look damn good doing it. If you're expecting any contribution on the field other than moral support, you might be disappointed.

The "only" thing? Why don't we deal with the FACTS first before talking about when someone should be fired?

UT requested a change in the UNC series. UNC saw an opportunity to boost its f-ball credibility while UT was down and refused. The UTAD made the right choice concerning that game. If it was something UNC REALLY wanted they would have been willing to work with UT. The real "chickens" are the guys who won't play a program at its norm.

The answer to the question IMO lies with Dooley and finances. MH fired Fulmer which most here thought should happen. His BIG mistake was hiring Kiffin. I said when MH hired DD that he could have taken the safe way with Cut or Kippy but instead swung for the fence. He sinks or floats with DD and in particular with whether DD can field a team that generates enough optimism to increase revenues.

OTOH, all of this comes down to politics and confidence. The guys one "Talkin Football" won't make this decision. The big donors will.

FTR, IMHO, if MH is fired it will be because those who didn't think Fulmer should be fired got their revenge. If that's true then they probably want him for AD... Now how do you feel about firing MH any time soon?[/QUOTE]

I think we need to see how CDD does and if he proves to be a solid coach then he should stay. I really dont agree with the UNC buyout because even with us not being at our peak that game is still very winnable. It makes us look weak and it sends a bad message to recruits imo. I also dont understand why Hamilton didn't keep Kiffin more accountable while he was here. Kiffin would talk trash, continued to have secondary violations, and Hamilton did nothing. If I was a big time donor he would be on very thin ice.

This!!!!!! In few years, with a possible NC in B'Ball and a conference title in football Hammy will be a Tenn Legend!! Just relax,I really don't understand all the Hammy Hate? He had the rocks to fire Fat boy,he hired Pearl and Kiffin (oops, but most on here endorsed it) and it was not Hammy's fault he left. He hired CDD,which the jury is out on this hire, but the only thing we can go off of is his heritage and past boss and coworker comments. Saban, Muschamp, not to mention Lance Thompson,Charlie Baggett all had only positive comments. I know people on here have been hard on his record at LA TECH. If you listened to their fanbase when Hammy hired him away, they were mostly wishing him the best and speaking about how much had improved over his 2-3 seasons as coach and AD. There really is no basis to the Hate for Hammy or CDD. Kiffin's resume was weaker than CDD's,but everyone welcomed him as some type of guru. It will be a couple of seasons before we will know if CDD was a great hire, but for now I would say he was the best available and one that considers the UT job a destination and not a stepping stone. He will also raise the respectability of our program in many ways even if the wins take a while to return. GO VOLS,CDD AND THE HAMPSTER!!!!!! :)

Why did my last post get deleted? I think it was an adequate answer to the question that was posted... or at least as stupid.

hamilton will be praying for a winning season in 2010 and maybe 8-9 wins in 2011---to save his job.

Thanks! I think you are right about Fulmer not being AD. It seems to me that the days of former coaches being ADs are gone, especially for big programs--too much business knowledge is needed these days and most coaches don't have that kind of experience.

I say just leave the subject alone if he gets fired he gets fired if he don he dont.... i mean he hired pearl which some could say he got lucky but the fact of the matter is bruce wasnt a well known name and he turned out pretty good i think it comes down to Dooleys success in the next couple years..

Do you have some inside knowledge on this?

It is my understanding that Fulmer is still popular with many big donors... the people who actually call the shots. He isn't popular on blogs but that won't be the critical factor.

FTR, I'm not trying to scare anyone. Fulmer is a very good "politician". He would be able to raise money and sell the UT brand. The one thing that I wouldn't want to see is him making a major coaching hire. IMO, that's what cooked his goose as HC... he failed to surround himself with quality asst's.
