Loften has been cleared by the SEC, NCAA, and Clearinghouse. Apparently Cheek is the one keeping Lofton out of school. What a joke

this is not true.

Tennessee admissions got harder on athletes getting into school several years ago. It was a problem for Fulmer in his later years, problem for Kiffin and problem for Dooley long before Cheek was hired.

Lofton's problems are with UT admissions as he was passed by Clearinghouse last year. But I'm not certain that Cheek has added anything to the requirements that UT has been using for several years now.

I'm not a Cheek fan but the admissions issues have been around for 7-8 years now.

Dooley has been trying to get this guy in school for seems like 2 years. Dooley's a really smart guy with a plan for everything or so it seems. Why would he put him on a path that would get him through the clearing house, yet not through UT's Admissions? Not trying to be contentious, I've just never understood the situation. Infact, when he didn't enroll with the last class I figured he hadn't done enough and Dooley would be done with him.

Loften should have passed the Clearinghouse a year ago and then he would not have this issue.
He will end up sitting this season out too. Most of the other college teams have a full roster, so it may be too late for him to apply for another university and make a team.

he is a really good football player with potential to be a great college player. I don't know the details on his academics. I jsut know I've been told since last eyar, it was Tennessee admissions that was keeping him out.

I don't know that Dooley can do much about the past path Lofton has been on. He could certainly give guidance and provide advice (through the Thornton academic side) to Lofton after he had signed the LOI. I doubt Dooley did much to get him through CLearinghouse. That likely was set in motion long before he signed

Thanks...I just stopped following it, but I remember reading his highschool coach talk about his skills.

I thought either he qualifies for admission or he dosen't. Is it anymore complicated than that? I don't think Cheek can change the admission requirements.

He closes to the line of scrimmage on run support as well as any db in high school you will ever see. He was born to play in a Wilcox style defense where run support frequently rotates to a safety. I understand completely why Dooley's been chasing the kid for two years.

He's not a once in a lifetime player in every system, but he might be in a Wilcox system.

Thanks good to know, because i was wondering why we were still on this kid. And red flags i was thinking that something was wrong with his grades, but i read that he was a 4.0 student in high school.
