I realize that but why THAT position?? It hasn't seemed to be an issue for recruiting any other position.
SEC wasn't anything like it is today.
There are better coaches and better recruiting in the SEC.
UGA, Bama, LSU were nothing like they are today.
It was Tennessee and Florida with Florida dominating Tennessee...somethings haven't changed
very good question and i'd like to see an answer.
springbokvol posted that in the last 3 years, we have landed 1 DT each year. that is with 3 different coaching staffs recruiting. the top ranked programs have averaged about 3 DT per class over the last 3 years.
????
Yeah it still makes me mad to this day that the coaches couldn't figure it out or at least make some adjustments. Alex Brown's performance decided the game that year and it's not even close.
I think our tackle was the guy with one eye, can't remember his name. Several times it was all he could do to get a hand on the guy

If I recall correctly, the Vols still had a chance to win the game in the last minute and the final offensive play was a toss sweep to Jamal Lewis going to the weak side against Alex Brown on fourth down. Needless to say, it failed miserably.

It failed . . . but if I remember correctly, a lot of the problem was that Jamal turned the sweep inside for some reason when he had room to take it outside and get the corner. If I recall correctly, the Vols still had a chance to win the game in the last minute and the final offensive play was a toss sweep to Jamal Lewis going to the weak side against Alex Brown on fourth down. I think the SEC is a little better, but I'd argue with you about whether Bama is really that much better now than they were in the 90s. They were really, REALLY good the first half of the 90s and then had another SEC title in '99.
Posted via VolNation MobileAs far as recruiting in the 90's went, I think Peyton had as much to do with the defensive guys who played here as any coach on that staff. From 1994 thru 1997 here are a few of the defensive stars who played here and signed Peyton's freshmen year thru his junior year.
