One thing really sticks out to me. ALL THE STARS WE HAD ON THE DEFENSIVE LINE. I'm convinced this is the staple of a strong football team. That will be Dooley's challenge, getting these studs back on the defensive line.

See 09 Bama game for proof of that^
Posted via VolNation Mobile who was the stud DE that UF had either b4 or after Kearse? IIRC, the guy I can't think of had 4 or 5 sacks against us as a fr or sph?? Anyone remember who I'm talking ab?

We had good players everywhere. Seemed like a few teams in the 90's were weak at DB, but for the most part we had talent everywhere, every year.

After was Alex brown, the man had 43 sacks against us alone. Our coaching staff made his reputation by forgetting about that whole in game adjustment nonsense and leaving the tackle all alone out there, again and again... Maybe it wasn't 43 sacks, but it sure felt like it.

While not exactly an earth shattering revelation, it is quite true. You can track the decline of the defense and it's ability to stop the run as our flow of d tackles to the NFL dried up.

Thanks guyss that's def who I was thinking of. Geez, we couldn't block him is all I remember ab him. Seemed like he blew up 50% of our plays from scrimmage.

I think our tackle was the guy with one eye, can't remember his name. Several times it was all he could do to get a hand on the guy

Sure didn't hurt... and neither did the fact that there was only one other really good team. Just had to be in the East, too.

What I wouldn't give for that offensive line now. I don't really remember Tucker, but I remember the other 4 quite well. Thats a pretty insane line

It was! I think tucker was young that year and he was the guy with one eye I was thinking of!

They just refused to put a te or a back over there to help and it was pitiful.

Alex Brown wasn't that great. He admitted after the game he figured out the snap because of something Tee and Spencer Riley were doing since it was so loud.

True. But that day we made him look like the second coming of kearse. Another example of the fulmer staff's inability to adjust in game. Snap count or not, a back or te should have been able to stem the tide.

Yeah it still makes me mad to this day that the coaches couldn't figure it out or at least make some adjustments. Alex Brown's performance decided the game that year and it's not even close.

Oh well, who knows maybe we will look back one day and say "You remember when we had Stone, Pair, James, and Fulton on the same line? Those were the days!"

They along with Douglas and maybe some of the other young guys like Schofield or Revis could be a pretty good o-line in the near future.

Although the defensive line talent hasn't been up to par with the past, the offensive line has been an embarrassment when compared to the days of Peyton and Tee.

Your point is well taken but you omit another essential, offensive line. The truth is that you have to be good in all areas to have the success that we had in the 90's and early millenium. We had great linebackers, DB's, WR's, RB's, FB's and good QB's.

I agree with your underlying logic, however, to be uber successful in the SEC and, as a result, the nation, you have to have a great defense. It is axiomatic that great defenses win championships. I believe that our new coaches lineage and experience will lead to our defenses being great again, and we will find our way back to the promised land. Good Post!
