When was your first UT football game?

I really don't remember the first game I went to. All I know is it must have been sometime in the early to mid 70's. My parents had season tickets, and every once in a while I got to go, but don't really remember when the first game I went to was. They still had bleachers in the north end zone though.:birgits_giggle:, and I do remember that I LOVED it whenever I did get to go. I eventually went to UT after high school, and pretty much always went to every game from that time on. With the exception of living in FL :)sick:) for about 16 yrs.

2000 against arkansas. Vols rolled to a 63-20 (i think) win. The game was not that interesting, but watching the team run through the "t" for the 1st time was awesome.

1st game
10-8-1994
Vols: 38
Arkansas: 21

2nd game
9-2-1995
Vols: 27
ECU: 7

I didn't live here at that time, and it was a seven hour drive to get to Knoxville. That made these games even more exciting!
i was at both. i remember that ARk game because it was so freaking hot for an October game.

the ECU game, uh, i know i was there, because i still have the ticket stub. alas, i have no recollectino of the actual game.:p i was a student at that time, so there's a few games from 94-97 that fall in that category.

my first was TN v the Citadell in the Liberty bowl in like 1982 or 83.....

I think I probably go back farther than anyone on this forum but my first Tennessee game was 1956 when I was in the sixth grade. I saw Tennessee beat Alabama 24-0 and I have been an avid Vol fan ever since. My best friends dad had an extra ticket and he took me. We sat in front of some drunk Bammers and they spilled a drink on us which started my dislike for Bama. The Vols went 10-0 that year, won the SEC and went to the Sugar Bowl where they lost to Baylor. The offense scored 275 points that year and the defense held opponents to 88 points. They ran a single wing and played field position a lot (quick kick on third down). Bowden Wyatt was the coach.

My first game at Neyland was December, 1971 against Penn State. It was a special day for the Majors family, and Johnny came back and Bobby who was a Sr. DB killed PSU with kickoff and punt returns, also an interception! Vols won 31-11. Neyland had the end zone bleacher seats at the time with a little angled section, where we sat. I was a Jr. in college and four of us fraternity brothers drove down from PSU. . .snowed in Bristol, Tn. but the day dawned beautiful and sunny! We stayed at the Holiday Inn where Howard Cosell and Keith Jackson stayed!! It was an ABC national T.V. game. . .just an awesome atmosphere! I have been a big Vol fan ever since!! Still love my Nits too!! I went down for only the second time to Neyland this past fall for the Wyoming game. . .not the same atmostphere to say the least!! Great memories. . .!!

B-17 Pilot the next year in 1972 was the first ever night game at Neyland Stadium and it was against Penn State also and the Vols also won that game.

For the 1956 season I was a coed at UT. Saturdays were big days and football was top on the list of things to do....See Johnny Majors play, watch Bowden Wyatt on the sidelines,(The General was always there too.) celebrate into the morning all the wins, parade up Cumberland to Gay Street for impromptu parades going into hotel lobbies and yelling very loud. At the game you always wanted a seat high in the stadium which at that time was at Row 60 of the present stadium. Interesting enough we sit in that same area when we are fortunate enough to get tickets now....Once a Vol always Vol even if you marry outside the Vol family...Oh what fun that has been for these many years and we will have to withstand another battle in the fall....We both hate Bama so that has kept our marriage safe....GO VOLS AND LETS GET OUR PLACE BACK IN THE NATIONAL SCENE>>>>>>

I forget what year (mid-late 90's), but my first game was against Memphis. We absolutely dominated them and I will never forget standing there watching the Vol Walk and thinking "Man these dudes are HUGE!", as I was still a little tike.

TN/BAMA 1966. Saw Kenny Stabler bring the damn tide back from 10-0 to beat us 11-10. Saddest I've ever been after a bama game, we drive to the tide 3 but miss the field goal as time expires. I forget the TN kicker's name but I'm sure he'll never forget. BUCK FAMA!

This was not my first game, but it was my first Bama game. I was a Freshman at UT. It rained the whole game, and everyone in the stadium thought that last kick was good except the ref.

I also remember it because my high school coach was an assistant coach for Bama, and I got to boo his ass when he ran out on the field. Never did like the guy.

Well, you got me beat by three years, My first game was Ole Miss in 1959. I was 11 and my brother was 9. We sat by ourselves behind the Vol bench on about the 30 yd line. My main memory beyond the tremendous atmosphere was a long pass of about 40 yds the last play of the first half where our receiver caught it right in front of us. The roar was unbelievable, and the two of us have been going ever since.

Mine was around 1973, 74 or 75 (somewhere in there) Tennessee played Boston College and Condridge Hollaway was the QB, if i remember correctly, if not him then it was Jimmy Streeter. I was 4 or 5 yrs old...we sat in the green bleachers and froze our tails off...

My first game to Neyland was in 1997. Peyton's last year as a Vol. We attended the Vandy game at home that year, which was over Thanksgiving break. We were able to purchase student tickets, and got to watch a great game unfold! Much closer than it should have been, with the Vols winning 17-10. I was 11, and went with my dad and uncle. I will always remember that game, and the feeling, and awe of the crowd and stadium.

My first game was 07 against georgia. I was sitting next to a bunch of georgia fans who thought that tennessee was in for an ass whooping. Needless to say they weren't too happy when we got the big lead early and most of them left before halftime. I think we ended up winning 35-14.

2006 v. California...Could not believe the atmosphere in Neyland. Have never experienced anything like that in my life.:)

My first game UT lost to DUKE freaking DUKE in 88. UT had Reggie Cobb, and Steve Francis at QB. :ermm:

My second game though, I watched UT beat #2 Auburn in the rain in 89

My first game I can remember was Florida in the NC season. My dad was a TN HS football coach then (MS now), and got tickets. I remember watching the field goal miss and everyone rushing the field. I was like 10 so I had to wait for things to calm down, but got to go on the field and pull up some grass from the endzone...glorious

1981, I was only 4 so I do not remember much of the game. But after a little search we won 42-0 over Colorado St.

1997 Texas Tech. It was the first home game of my freshman year. There was a lot of hype going into that game with Peyton returning for his senior year. It was a pretty dominant performance. I vividly remembering walking out into the stands for the first time.

the 1978 duke game. i was 10 and it was a great feeling to get to go to a game. been hooked ever since. had seats in sec WW with the end zone only having the bleachers. looks truly different today.
