I suspect that on Tuesday of next week, our women will be at best # 2 if not 3 or 4. Does anyone remember when the last time our mens Bball was ranked the same or higher than our womens. One thing is for sure, We have the number one school for mens and womens basketball combined.

Just for the hell of it, I looked it up in the UT media guides. The last week that the UT men were ranked higher than the women was the week of Dec. 27, 1982 to Jan. 3, 1983. The men were ranked No. 8 that week and the women were ranked No. 21. The next week, both teams were ranked No. 12, and after that the women pulled back ahead.

The year before, during much of January and February 1982, the men were actually ranked and the women were unranked.

The 2001 men's team got to No. 4 twice, in mid-December and again in mid-January, but the Lady Vols were never ranked lower than third all season. The 2006 team just missed matching the Lady Vols, getting to No. 8 in mid-February. Within 10 days, the Lady Vols dropped to eighth, but UT had lost to UK and Arkansas and dropped to 14th.

So, this is the first time in more than 25 years that the Tennessee men's basketball team has been rated ahead of its women's team. No one on the current team was alive the last time this happened.
