Going back to Majors, UT has not been willing to drop the kind of money many of you are suggesting in terms of getting rid of Dooley and hiring another new coach.

For a football staff......2009......that was kiffy's call to spread it among the assistants.

The next time will be the first time. This isn't Mike Hamilton bumbling around and trying to just get a name on the dotted line. Dave Hart's been around, he'll make a good hire and get the ship sailing straight.

I hope you are right but part of the deal with Kiffin was that he was going to bring Orgeron and Monte Kiffin with him which drove up the price tag. If I am not mistaken, Orgeron was looking to get out after year one so that would have taken some of the luster off of that one.

Other than Majors (who was a special "condition"), UT has never paid top dollar, nor hired a "named" coach in any sport. UT tries to catch up and comers,.

Dude we had the same coach for 16 years! Dropping "big" money was not around before fulmer. We've had two staffs in the "big" money era.. Both were failures

The thing that concerns me about shelling out the bank for a big-name hire is that just because we do that, it doesn't guarantee success. Sure, you have a much better chance to succeed, but the odds of failure don't just go away. I'm taking a wait and see approach to all this.

And for the record, I could be wrong and that's fine if I am, but I still don't think Gruden will be our coach next year.

wasn't CPF near the top for a while? I thought he was the first to 2M?

I'm pretty sure he was the first to $2 millon. Its funny to look back on that now though. Such an insignificant amount of money by todays standards.
