When is the last time a coach held a press conference to decline a job offer?

I think about what we've seen the past several years and of all of the Saban lies and Les Miles lies, etc none of it was a special press conference just to decline the job. It was always asked at PC's for other things like the SECCG and what not, but it just doesn't happen very often.

So if he has a press conference in the morning and MH has one later in the afternoon, then I'd presume that could mean something.

Les Miles specifically held a press conference the day before the BCS championship game to decline the Michigan job.

This is also the fastest way for him to squash any rumors that may start about him and to help reassure Texas recruits that he'll be there for them.

Wouldn't it make a difference that he is a head coach though? It assures the fans and recruits your staying. A defensive coordinator shouldn't need to go that far out of his way to satisfy fans.

I'd tend to agree except it'd be a little strange to accept the job in Austin rather than in Knoxville.

Just mentioning Les Miles since he brought it up in the original post. This is one of the best "press conferences" ever. YouTube - Les Miles Press Conference

Then you have been living in a hole for the past 20 years. Every one of those people have held PC's to decline jobs. Saban did it while he was at the Dolphins to decline the Alabama job. But he did leave and now Bama has their 13th championship. Feels good to be on top :).

Exactly. This is to reassure all of the Texas recruits. USC has the background with Kiffen(Yea, I know), UT has no history with Muschamp. It would take at least a couple of days with Muschamp to finalize a deal.

Muschamp would be a good choice. But the timing of the PC and Kiffen's stab in the back just don't mesh. I hope to be wrong on Muschamp. It would take a lot of $$$ to get a good coach to come into this mess three weeks before NSD. Lame has set UT back 3-4 years in rebuilding this program. I admit to being one who fell for his scam.

Lane did the same thing today though....Holding a presser to announce he was leaving UT, while still in Knoxville....We just have to wait and see what's going on I guess....This feels like deja vue all over again
