After beating Florida, Butch led the band in playing Rocky Top. I was not at the game but watched on TV as the CBS feed showed it all. I looked at my daughter while watching and said "he thinks he won the national championship." I was embarrassed that our HEAD COACH would do something like that when we were expected to win. And several friends and co-workers from other schools like OSU, FSU, Auburn etc gave me hell about it and said it made us look small. I defended Butch with the whole thing about how big the Florida win was.

No problem with Dobbs doing that, or Barnett, or whatever other player wants to. But the HEAD COACH??? Show me one other time a head coach at a ranked school did what Butch did in a game that early in the season. I get it if you're Kentucky and beat #1 Alabama, but beat Florida was only a stepping stone this year, not the end game. But he thought the monkey was off his and program's back and he was a champion.

I think after beating Florida they got complacent, thought they were all that and a bag of chips. And the UGA hail mary, as great as it was, solidified the complacency.

Fire away!

Exactly right!!!

We should NEVER act like fools for beating a team that we SHOULD beat on a regular basis.

TENNESSEE should NEVER rush the field after a win either. Please.

You got embarrassed because he led the band after beating UF?? You do realize they hadn't beaten them in nearly 15 years?! A lot of former UT coaches would have traded places with him. UT didn't get complacent after UGA. Their injuries and reliance on Dobbs caught up to them. Other teams adjusted to our deficiencies and UT either could not or did not adjust. Heck I would have gladly led the band after beating UF.

Also, what's up with Butch wearing a watch all the time?

I have some buddies that are Alcorn State and Yale fans and they say he should be able to tell time on his cell phone. It makes it look like he doesn't even have a phone!

Fire this clown.

Yes I was embarrassed as it looked like we were a 16 seed beating a 1 seed in the NCAA BB tournament.

We were at home. Favorites. His leading the band was a man relieved that he would get to keep his job.

Point out one coach at a P5 school that has EVER done this while ranked when it wasn't a game to decide a conference championship or national championship, or a bowl game. This was 1-0 in the SEC at that point and he was acting like he won it all.

Monkey off the back? Yes. But the SEC is not a "what have you done for me lately" conference. It's a "what are you going to do for me tomorrow" conference until the end of the season.

Bugaboo #1 was the cause the GA game was close. Lack of ball security. Kamara fumbles and gives GA a short field and Hurd fumbles on goal line.

It's nit-picking, but I don't see it causing any of the struggles since. I don't agree with the head coach leading the band, but I don't agree with the big shiny trophy/champion gear and super bowl like celebration in week 2 either. I do wish the football team could've played as good as the band did with Butch just aimlessly waiving his arms in front of them.

Yeah.. That whole celebration and trophy presentation in Bristol complete with Championship apparel was PATHETIC.. CBJ could have sent a message right there by making it abundantly clear that they hasd accomplished nothing

This may be true, but the image will never be as haunting as Dooley with that leather hat on getting carried off by players.

I haven't been on the Fire Butch bandwagon, but I did think leading the band and showboating on the timeout at the end of that game was ridiculous. It was far too much of a "look at me" move. He wants the praise when things go well but can't handle the criticism when they don't.

Just stupid. You got me. Go celebrate your Battle of Bristol championship and your Champions of Life win.

The question still remains - how many P5 coaches have EVER led the band after a win while ranked or as a favorite that early in the season???? We were 1-0 in the SEC. 7 games left.

I agree...Sort of. At this point we don't rush the field over a bama win or a fla win. We rush the field after a vandy win and securing a 12-0 season. Rushing the field here isn't a sign of "oh we beat them and we didn't think we could" but rather us returning to former glory.

Don't really see the problem with leading the band and I couldn't care less about what fans of other schools think. Rushing the field is a huge no no, but leading the band? Meh. Remember that we were 4-0 at the time.

Hahaha don't like you wasn't jumping in your moms basement like a fool since we beat UF for the 1st time in 11 years.
Im not happy with Butch myself, but good God it about time to quit looking at dumb stuff.

Did Butch mess up? Yes. Does Volnation need 1000's threads about the same crap? No

Do we need a whole thread about butch leading the band compared to other coaches? No

Sorry i'm just calling it as I see it. :hi:

Well, it was a big win and Butch is a band guy. Kinda fitting imo
