When are we going to move on?

First and foremost I am seeking to understand, not criticize or infer negative intent. We all have the right to our opinions as well, thank goodness we live in 'Merica! 🇺🇸

When are we going to stop looking back and focus forward? All of the Nico threads, and some are quite amusing, feel like we can't get over the situation. Until mid-summer I was in the same boat to be honest. But now that JA is killing it and the other guy....forget his name.... (well, whatever, it will come to me) is on the struggle bus why do we keep going back to that well?

I suppose I just dislike the fact he is still living, rent free, in some of our fellow Vols heads when we CLEARLY have a team that will be exciting to watch and are probably better off the way it went down.

What am I missing?
As I said in another thread, talking about Nico and cheering for the Vols are not mutually exclusive. Just because someone posts about Nico does not mean they are cheering any less for the Vols. People post about all kinds of things on this forum that are not even football related Why does it bother you that people post about Nico, he’s a firmer Vol and it is football related.

I will fully admit to "not letting it go"-yet. Hell I started the UNLV game thread.

Vol fans (and Southerners in general) have loooooonnnng memories man.

Eventually I will get bored with it-but until th nI plan on reveling in the misery of Nico

I don’t get the idea of the gatekeeping portion of the fanbase who act like they can’t fathom why any Tennessee fan would enjoy seeing Nico struggle. There has never been a situation quite like this in college sports, and your favorite team is a major player in the story. How can anyone not be fascinated watching Aguilar drive this train past that Polynesian Pileup?
Not sure where the gatekeeping part is, I suppose you could interpret my question that way but it isn't what was intended. Thought I was pretty clear I was curious, but if I wasn't, hopefully this cleans it up.

It doesn't bother me, don't believe I implied that. I just found myself excited for the season and not giving any thought to Nico save when these posts popped up and kept going with regularity. I was simply wondering what the driver was for folks. Totally agree it has nothing to do with how someone is cheering the team on. I just think about it differently (or, to the point, I don't) and was curious.

We will move on if we beat UGA, Bama and UF this year. AND if we reach the second round of the playoffs. A lot of fans feel Nico cost us a better season last year. We won't move on from Lane Kiffin until we beat him at Neyland. Notice how Ole Miss never schedules games with us anymore.

I refuse.

Until his shadow no longer lingers over the Vols, he will remain part of the conversation. He carried us into the playoffs for the first time, and THEN he may have tried to hold out before those very games. He stands as the most polarizing recruit CJH has ever brought to campus. He tarnished the program’s image and put us on the news all off season in a negative light (regardless if they were discussing him or us in that negative light, but if he had done well and Aggie had done poor we would be having a MUCH different discussion right now), and his father only added to the spectacle with sideline antics and counterfeit jerseys. UCLA’s late kickoffs keep him in the discussion as well since most of us love having one more thing to root for (or against) after the UT game.

People will always discuss what draws their attention. You do not get to decide what is worthy of discussion By asking us to end the conversation, you have prolonged it. Each time you respond in protest, you inadvertently, breathe more life into the subject. Your engagement becomes an open door inviting others to step in whenever new Nico news surfaces.

If you truly wish for the horse to rest, why place the saddle back upon his back? (I made this quote up so feel free to use it if you love it)
Never said I was deciding anything for anyone. I literally asked why people were still posting on it because I wasn't even thinking about it myself. Your feelings are pretty clear in the first part of your answer and that is what I was curious about. A lot of reading into intent vs. what was actually asked. Admittedly the "rent free" part was not helpful.

I actually felt like he took the burnt of the negative press. Definitely not the story we wanted to be talking about but the vast majority (save the click-bait types) praised CJH and the program for cutting bait. Kid's Dad literally screwed his kid over or something else happened in the locker room and he simply had to go.

Good call out on the late kick-offs, hadn't thought about it that way.

I can get behind Lane, dude did us dirty and truly put us back years.

As for last year, I just don't think he's as good as he was hyped to be, not sure he intentionally did anything. He still won the job but I felt he had to win the job given the $ figure attached to him.

It’s hard for me to understand how someone can genuinely not grasp why Tennessee fans would care how it’s going for him, especially if that person is a Tennessee fan.

I understand your overall point. The continuous same article over and over and over can be annoying. I think like you said it’s click bait and they are hoping people who didn’t see the first one may click on the next one.

It is low hanging fruit, but sports media has devolved into just that. You can thank the Stephen A’s and Skip Bayless’ of the world.

From my seat it’s because I don’t care about a UCLA QB. It is what it is and nothing he does or doesn’t do affects us anymore.

Control the controllable.

We can’t control anything. We aren’t actually on the team. None of this should prevent you from understanding why Tennessee fans are interested in Nico’s struggles. Certainly you realize that many people are interested in college football beyond just the Tennessee game.

I hear you, but no. Especially with more information coming out about last season. Visiting Oregon the week we lost to Arkansas? Makes you wonder if he ran out of bounds on purpose (halfway joking there). Love JA and looking forward to the rest of this season, but our 24 team was such a complete team if our QB was more invested we could've gone further than the first round of the CFP

east Tennesseeans forget nothing

aint no grudge like the ones held by mountain folk
I wonder what other people do with their time and energy. I got mine set on college football and conspiracy theories. Can’t afford a whole lot more in this economy. Not poisoning yourself with inorganic food is expensive!
