Probably so...question from a discussion a couple of weeks ago with a guy...does the government send Hardee's a little extra cash for offering employment to so many _______________ people?

This. I find it hilarious when people see my well behaved kid and tell me how they wish their kid was like mine. Then they tell me how they never discipline their kid rather they let them get away with murder until becoming frustrated and then yelling at the child, never read to them, never eat dinner with them, shove them in front of a tv so mommy can have her alone time, etc. I just shake my head and nod. I have no idea why your kid is problem child.

I'm old school Tri. I was scared of my dad. He didn't drink or anything, but if I would have messed up, I knew he'd kick my ass. And I didn't want to mess up to see him disappointed. Some people have a problem with that style. I don't. He was my man and made me mentally tough. We never got into it, but he demanded respect.
I'm tough on my kids and demand effort and respect to those around them, but they represent themselves well, and we have a ton of fun at the house, vacationing, etc. But when I give a time that we need to stop and get to homework, chores etc, they know they do it, or the fun we're having doesn't happen. They are often saying "but look what they are doing, and so and so is doing this or that". Wherever we go, people compliment on their behavior, etc and I always tell them how proud it makes us feel and how they should feel.

12, 9 and 5. All boys. Makes it easier to discipline. Don't know what I'd do about girls. We are best buds and do everything together, but not the best bud type that lets them act a fool. I haven't had to spank in years, though a couple of backhand slaps on the butt as they walk by and mumble something has occured from time to time. Just little reminders. I'm not perfect by any means, but I think my wife and I are doing a great job.

Good spacing there! Keep up the good work. You got 4-5 more years before the fur really starts to fly

I'm the same way. I always explain why he is being punished and what is expected of him in the future. I always try to remember to tell my son I love him after the punishment so he knows its his actions I disprove of and not him.

Yep. I gave my middle son a tongue lashing about being dramatic, giving effort, etc last night after he gave really poor effort at something. He didn't like what I said, but he was listening. He was looking me in the eye and about to get upset, but he didn't yell, cry, talk back or anything like that. I asked him if he understood and he said, "yes dad". I told him to chill in his room for a few minutes.
I went back up 15 minutes later and commended him on handling the tongue lashing like a big boy, but to also remember why he got it. He fully understood. The rest of the night was drama free and we had ice cream and a michael jackson dance off, which I freaking dominated.
That's how our house rolls. And I wouldn't change it for anything, even the difficult arguments as kids test their boundaries. It's part of life and I enjoy the challenges.

Most of the time lack of good upbringing leads to a juvenile delinquent .your thoughts.

Since Trayvor is the focus of our attention.

His mother didn't even file a missing persons report for three days, I guess he just ran loose.

Now she has filed for trademark rights for some things people are selling on T-shirts, looking to cash in.

What can one think of such a mentality?
