What's wrong with the Offense?

cant tell if this is sarcasm or not ViC. either way, we are more than likely going to need Lincolns foot to win some close games this year.

You got THAT right. Our offense isn't going to overpower anyone this year I don't believe...we need all the points from 40+ that we can get.

No sir, it was not sarcasm. I agree with you that we are going to need his foot to win games. I have posted that his role will be critical to the team's success this year.

I am going to say it was the BS offense that Clawsen ran, unless this year in the first couple games the Offense still looks like it did last year! Then I will blame pathetic play. But I got faith in these guys and this staff!

From what I have heard reported on the radio, the zone blocking scheme is back on the o-line. I don't know how that relays to our better running game, but it ultimately comes down to execution by the guys on the field. I have also read/heard that CLK is not happy with bigger guys on the line. He wants more athletic guys instead of 300s that can't move. The Denver o-line strat comes to mind when I think about this. On a side note, I agree with Voldad in that it starts with the guy at QB. You get good play at that posistion and you win.

I just wonder about that "BS" offense...I worry becaused it worked for Richmond ok. How was our version any different? Just thinking out loud...

How long has it been since we've been able to run the football whenever and wherever we wanted? I yearn for those days when #20 would get the ball and just dominate (and Lewis before him). I think we have to establish this great tradition again before we can loosen up our passing attack...that's been 90% of our plays the past 2 years. Anyone agree?

First year he was at Fordham they were 0-11.

First year at Richmond they were 3-8 (0-8 conference record).

Plus, his overall record at Richmond was 29-20.

Deduct from that what you want.

No, I get what you're saying too. It just makes me wonder why a DI SEC QB who was a highly touted recruit couldn't quite grasp it. But then again...neither did Stephens or Coleman.

The sad thing is that the only way we'd really know what Clawson's offense would truly be like would have been in Nune's Junior year.

I'll go out on a limb and finally admit it. I dont like Tennessee's Qb's the last few years.

Small athletic OL and zone block.....Sounds familiar. Two point stand too? Didn't work for CTB. Was actually in here browsing to see if there was anything bout Dan Brooks, but found this thread interesting. I think every offense stinks in the spring not just UT. It's a mind game the coach's play. They call defenses that they know will stuff the offense and sometimes will do vice versa.

I think Kiffin will get our offense into shape this year. I'm really excited about next season and I think we will see vast improvement in our offense. I guess that goes without saying though since hopefully we can't be any worse than last year :D. As far as Lincoln goes, Taka Koyano is on the roster as a kicker and for those of you who remember Taka was maryville's kicker for a few seasons and he can boot it. I think he may have been redshirted last year for some reason or maybe he is struggling. I haven't talked to him in awhile so I'm not sure on his situation, but I do know that Lincoln missed a bunch of field goals last year that would have been easy chip shots for Taka.

as far as daniel lincoln goes, i think he is even more affected by inner demons than crompton. clearly the kid is a gifted kicker (we all remember he was money his freshman year), but he has NO confidence right now and he can't seem to build any back. if the coaches can't overcome that with coaching, lincoln will lose his spot. i won't be too upset. lincoln is an unbelievably obnoxious person and this is probably karma beating him down for being a tool.

Some of this is just normal. The offense is always behind the defense this early on. We'll see how it's going in the summer.

Richmond is a joke, this is a real league with NFL type players playing in college going pro. Big difference. I would like to see what Richmond plays in the SEC. The SEC is bread for speed, strength and hard hitting.

You can blame the scheme all you want, but the reality is that we just weren't very good.
