What's wrong with the ACC?

Jacksonville had the game for three years. Next year it will may be in Charlotte, or may rotate to several cities.

There were 53K tickets sold, but I think that local estimates were about 40k people in the seats.

I think there are several reasons:

1) Fans in the ACC are BBall not FBall fans. The UK vs. UNC BBall game the same day had higher ratings that the ACC FBall chamionship.

2) Smaller schools. BC has fewer than 100,000 alumni. Last year Wake Forest had fewer than 40,000 alumni. These aren't schools that have followers that didn't attend a day of class -- like the SEC.

3) Save my money for the bowls. From what I heard in in Jacksonville a lot of the BC fans were holding back to travel to the Bowl game instead. I understand that call. I would have loved to go to the SECCG, but I saved my $ for the New Years bowl trip.
that's a good point. there were a lot of people that called in to talk shows around here last year that did state this. the thought being that if they win, they'd rather go to the Orange bowl in Miami, than go to JAX for a short weekend.

:eek:lol:
that is great, even though im not so sure how real it is, why would there be that many fans wearing blue for a vt bc game...or was that whole half of the stadium empty :birgits_giggle:

and it is in part because vt and bc are no where close to jacksonville, but im sure that it wouldnt matter in the sec, but in reality the sec and acc are worlds apart, and not just the talent. besides vt and clemson, noone really cares. and even vt only puts 60,000 some fans in lane stadium every week. its not really comparable.

it is. they were making a big deal about how many tickets were still availble for that game last week in Charlotte. reports had it that less than 20k were going to show up, turns out to be fairly accurate.

no, JAX got the bid over Charlotte when the ACC expanded.

it's likely to get re bid and move to Charlotte in the near future.

Jacksonville doen't want it anymore. It's been a loser every year they've hosted. They've tried everything to boost attendance. They even begg local companies to buy blocks of tickets to support the effort. Still this.

bad local to begin with coupled with the wrong teams going, it is what it is.

they certainly wanted it when it first came up. turns out no one wants to go.

I expect Charlotte to do well.
