Like the previous coaching search, none of this is good.

I dont know why some believe an investigation and more than likely a lengthy legal battle over a buyout (if they try to fire him with cause) is a good thing. Not to mention what football related issues you could possibly cause.

Saving the buyout after this mess isnt going to result in a better coach being hired.

It appears that UT only wants coaches that 1.)can win the introductory press conference and 2.)they can market the snot out of, wins don't matter. Since Fumler, the marketing and media hype surrounding Kiffin ("It's Time"), Dooley ("Fear the Pants"), Jones ("Brick by Brick"), and now Pruitt ("Aight") has been more important than winning on the field, with orange pants flash mobs, foam bricks, plus t-shirts and hats with coach-penned slogans ringing the cash registers and putting folks in the seats, at least until the novelty is replaced by bad football. I believe UT's marketing and fan experience divisions have won some "championships" (awards) during these guys' respective tenures.

I used to chuckle when people claimed that the administration didn't care about winning or was sabotaging the program, etc.

I believe it now.

If I was Pruitt, I'd be livid. Either fire me or don't. But, this is insane.

And worse, if they do fire him, they've completely screwed whatever new coach they might attempt to hire and make it difficult to finish/hold the recruiting class, build a staff, etc.

And in Pruitt's case, he's totally screwed. I don't know how he has any chance of trying to sell himself, the program, the future, etc.

I have no idea what the people in charge are doing.

They have no idea either, when it comes to knowing what they are doing.

I dont know that its they dont care (at least not all of them down the through the years) but between them and the $ and politics that surrounds big decisions, I think some are more inclined to have it their way as to get together and do whats best. You cant make big steps when people are pulling opposite directions.

And yes, they have painted themselves into a corner on Pruitt.

Unlike lots of talking heads and a bunch if excitable fans, the power team has remained silent and not yet touched a paint brush. Once some facts come out they can make some moves. I am fast coming to the conclusion that they may make a move either way, with an interim coach as the most probable outcome. The longer the duration of the silence the more probable this is the solution. Largely up to the NCAA to share the FACTS. Trying to expedite those facts the reason for hiring outside counsel. Even when their position is known, if Pruitt fights the findings the buyout issue will remain unresolved for a while.

I would think you will have to make your decision on firing with or without cause and with is probably going to require information from the NCAA. NOW if the internal supports that then there is no reason to wait. Just have not had the impression that was the case. But facts to support any position have eluded me so far. But 12 million dollar questions are what they are.

If CJP does not get fired soon, then he may have a wrongful termination lawsuit if they fire him after the 2021 season. The leaked investigation and failure to allow coaches to be hired has created uncertainty with the players (portal), impacted recruiting, and impacted the ability to attract coaches once he is allowed to hire. The administration is impacting his ability to perform the duties outlined in his contract.

I'm not up on contracts, buyouts, and lawsuits regarding them.
But, is there an avenue where you fire him before getting the info back (from the AA if thats what you need), and if it were to turn up something severe you would then be able to nullify the buyout?

I'm sure it has happened but who was the last coach to lose his buyout for cause? It just doesn't seem very common.

The law firm was engaged November 19, $375 and $500 an hour for the involved attorneys, billed in quarter hour increments, the disclosure of the law firm involvement wasn't made until after the holiday, but they had been on the job a month when the disclosure was made,

Hopefully this is the precursor to a much needed house cleaning over at the athletic department, then they can lay a foundation to toss Blonde Donde but she may retire on her own and turn the reins over to some people who are younger, more talented, carry a skillset necessary to attract and retain qualified and competent coaches, staff and employees, then and only then can they work toward attracting top flight competitive athletes, but with the over priced, under performing leadership they have in place now, it is amazing that the team actually got on the field this year

You’re absolutely correct.

The only hire they can make that makes any sense is Freeze. Sanctions, or whatever be damned. Get a competent football coach and lock him into a contract that protects the university.

Tennessee is a Fing smoldering pile of crap to almost any coach that has options. Freeze is your guy otherwise you are looking squarely at another Dooley type hire.

Well written. I must say, in my 50 years of my Vol fanship, Tennessee Football is in the worst place I can ever remember it being in.

We are suffering from massive public exposure of an investigation with the least amount of actual facts I can remember. We do not know what the most serious allegations could result in, and who has been implicated in the investigation as part of the wrong doing or the coverup. Just lots of conjecture at this point unless I have missed some data dumps. The possibilities are endless.... from next to nothing to devastating. A few hard facts, even if not complete could help with early decision making. Is it possible our leader have been informed of some status, but sworn to silence under the threat of Institutional Control charges? Lack of action on coaches, going and coming is for sure confusing, as is the transfer signing on and some positive reports on the recruiting front. I do not have a clue on what to expect as end results to our staff. Post Bruce stuff muddies the water for me. We have got to be pushing for some level of finalization in order to make some moves or to be able to entice coaches and player to sign on.
