What's the timetable for success?

Now that we're definitely not getting Pearl back and the coaching search is over, how long are we supposed to give Tyndall before we start looking for his replacement? I assume that part of the reason for seeking someone who would accept a low buyout is so they are easily replaced but I also doubt the AD expects to need to exercise that option 1 or 2 seasons in. What's reasonable to expect from this guy in the opinion of the people who think it's a good - great hire?

The roster is not in great shape, especially having nothing at all in the post. We also have no idea who may leave, or what of the current class may ever play here.

That said, I'd hope in year 3 or 4 we're on the right track in recruiting and for an NCAA bid.

I'm encouraged because year 3-4-5 were his three best at Morehead.

OP, given Volnation logic, the new HC has already had more than enough time to show us what he has to offer! :D

Let's see, after the shock of Butch Jones being announced as HC it only took a few weeks before the "Butch Gets It" threads started popping up all over the place. After a losing season, many still thinks he gets it based on the recruiting class.

Coach Martin had a winning basketball program but it wasn't good enough for a lot of the fanbase.

So given the different sets of criteria this fanbase uses there is simply no way to answer your question.

By year 3 or 4 make the tourney is acceptable? Our last coach made the sweet 16 in year 3 and was pretty much ran outta town.

Basketball is a sport you can turn around quickly, if we aren't on track to make the NCAAT in year 2 it's a dissapointment.

Since Tyndall is farther removed from Pearl than Martin was, I'm guessing we'll see a massive difference in standards and tolerance for Donnie boy.

That was my first thought too, but I'm not sure. We have some with microwave mentalities.

When the coach made the sweet 16, the fan base calmed down. He got offered a half million dollar raise, and still split.

Year 1- will not be a great year barring a miracle, would just like to see improvement.

Year 2- would like to see improvement over year one. Would be great to be back as a bubble team

Year 3 - should make the tournament imo

Make the tourney every year

Win the sec tourney in one of his 6 years

Get to the sweet 16 1/3 years.

Improve recruiting and fan support

Stay out of trouble

First year a pass like always. Expect a tourney appearance in year two.

The roster isn't in the best shape and it's a whole new system being implemeted. By year 3 he should make the tourney. If he makes in year 2, we might have gotten lucky with the hire.

Hart didn't want Cuonzo here.

Ironically, it'll be Cuonzo's most ardent supporters who'll say things like "tourney next year" when Zo wasn't held to that standard at all.

They apparently can't see the difference in expecting year 3 with the players we had this year to be excellent from start to finish, with year 4 looking bright vs what we actually got.

Nothing wrong with Hart wanting the buy-out lowered with the overall state the program/roster was in and how year 4 and 5 were looking.

We can argue about this til the cows come home and probably won't agree at all.

But the bottom line is, Martin was offered at the bare minimum a year 4 here with a hefty raise, and an extra million on top of that 1.8 million if his year 4 program was so bad he'd have to be fired.

Getting 3 million for failing at your job would be sweet for any body.
