As I mull this over in my mind, I can understand why a Gator might circle other games on the schedule. But if by chance (I give it about 35%) the Gators lose to the Vols, it will be the most important game of the season for them as well.
LAW how much of a chance do you really feel we have of winning in SwampVille.
LOL, I will bet $100.00 if ya give me the 4-1 odds:yes:Hadn't thought to ask myself the same question. I would have to mull that over a bit. UT game seems to be key to winning the SECE, the UGA game may be the difference maker should we have one loss and you guys threatening to blow your advantage should you have beaten us, then there's FSU ...
Tough call.
Right now, this moment, I'd say you win it about 1 in four tries. Ask me tomorrow and I may say 1 in 6. Ask me in a few months and I may say 3 in 4.
Depends in part on whether our team can all get paroled at the same time.
I guess that I am thinking if we lose to Cal then there really are no important games for the Vols. If we can't beat Cal, we aren't going to compete with any big name schools.
No way we can lose to a team from the PAC 10 and still be taken seriously... if we win the SEC crown but lost to CAL then everyone will be saying how much stronger the PAC 10 team is than the SEC. Once we beat CAL then the most important game is Florida, for real.
That does seem to to be the M.O. of the past few seasons. When Phil was in his prime UTK would blow-out the ugly stepsisters by 30-40 points. Vandy has been making a living off of playing to the competition for years and if their kind of success is where this road leads then I am all for resuming running up the score whenever possible.Tenn. seems to play to the level of the opposition.
UGA's the most important game, IMO. A realistic look at the division indicates that UF has such a demographic advantage that, given good to excellent coaching, they should be in the driver's seat more often than not. They currently have good coaching again. Therefore I think it's critical to reassert ourselves over UGA and push them back down into the second division spot they occupied for most of the 90s.
Alabama is the game that I care about the most. Florida is the one everybody circles on the calendar. But it's not a coincidence that our program went into decline about the same time that GA started beating us regularly. That needs to stop.
Finevol has his thread about the hardest game to win. Let me change the topic slightly. What's the most important?
Now think before you answer. On papper, Florida is the most important because the winner has such an advantage in the SECE. But, can't an argument be made that its the Cal game because it sets the tone for the rest of the season? What about the 'bama game? Do you need to let Saban know whose boss, not for this year, but for the rest of the decade?
Hmmmm ....
Harsh.
A reasoned view of things, and certainly defensible. But harsh.
I try to be realistic. Florida had as much talent in anyone in the league even in the 90s, with a coach who was not exactly regarded as being entirely devoted to recruiting. There's 25 million people in the state, for crying out loud. Given good coaching, they're going to be in the mix every year. So UT needs to make this a two-horse race again, like it was in the 90s. Richt's success has come largely at our expense.
