You guys act like he's been a receiver his whole life... he's primarily been a tight end and didn't fully turn receiver until 2 years ago... and the defenses that he went up against last year were no joke... He made big plays in crucial times (11 seconds left against South Carolina)... give the kid a break
I'll just leave this here...
Games/Starts: 12/1
Played in 12 games with one start at receiver
Had 21 catches for 305 yards with four touchdowns
Suffered a knee injury prior to TaxSlayer Bowl vs. Iowa (1/2) and missed the game
Scored touchdowns in three consecutive games at South Carolina (11/1), Kentucky (11/15) and Missouri (11/22)
Had a catch in 12 consecutive games from Sept. 14, 2013 thru Sept. 6, 2014
Caught a 4-yard touchdown in the late fourth quarter vs. #19 Missouri (11/22); had three catches for 10 yards
Scored career long 52-yard touchdown as part of career high 87 receiving yards on three catches vs. Kentucky (11/15)
Game-tying touchdown catch on a 9-yard reception with 11 seconds left in regulation at South Carolina (11/1) as part of two catches for 20 yards
Career high of six catches for 76 receiving yards vs. Chattanooga (10/11), both team highs in the game
Four catches for 60 yards at #12/13 Georgia (9/27), including as 23-yard touchdown catch
12-game catch streak ended at #4/3 Oklahoma (9/13)
Had a catch for 11 yards vs. Arkansas State (9/6)
Opened 2014 with two catches for 41 yards in win over Utah State (8/31)
If he can play consistently to his size and potential, he could really break out and be a special player in his last 2 years.
Also (to some of the posters above), Croom's made some nice catches over the past 2 years. But I wouldn't include the game-tying one against SC last year. It was important, obviously. But my 3-year-old could have caught that pass. There wasn't a defender within 10 yards of him.
Josh Smith caught a ton of heat too for being bad while he was playing hurt. Croom has been banged up a lot of his time here. It's a physical sport and happens to a lot of guys. Maggit remember was maligned at times too. That's not counting issues when he was the only guy playing because errybody was hurt and our oline and qb situation was weak.
Was Smith playing hurt his freshman year? I thought he had a pretty solid sophomore year... but when he was a freshman I thought that he was un-characteristically dropping several easy opportunities... seemed mental. I thought that he was playing better than any WR before he got hurt last year. Seemed to be Worley's favorite target other than the jet sweep "passes" to pig.
I think that he's also one of the fastest guys on the roster.
