In my world quick sideline passes should be used to draw tight coverage on WR's, which should later open up a hitch or pump fake to burn the corners. But we just keep doing the first part over and over. Are we failing to set up the big play or that's not even considered an option?

We have little to no "big play" ability, in the passing game. We can do these screens and dinks to the sideline all game and DB's aren't going to respect the downfield ability of the QB and the WR's.

If anything, we need to be utilizing the TE across the middle more, that is where we can exploit the adjustments defenses are making against us, but for whatever the hell reason, the staff REFUSES to do that.

Josh Smith had a nice pass from Dormady, but appeared to go into shock when he realized it was actually catchable.

I also don't get why Wolf is ignored. I know some of it has been him having to stay in for protection, but today that should not have been the case. Something is clearly up with Dobbs, and a slant or seam to a TE would be a great option for him.

Glad I'm not the only one that notices the TE across the middle under-utilization, lol. I don't know what the reason is, but going back as far as the OU game, the TE has been sitting in the middle, sometimes uncovered, and is completely ignored. Wolf's supposed to have decent hands, so it can't be lack of confidence in him catching is. I am perplexed by the reasoning in not using him more.

The sideline passes are designed to lull the defense to sleep... but unfortunately it only lulls debord to sleep. 😴

One thing that has always been consistent about Dobbs is that when he is under pressure he throws his best passes.

I think it is a combination of having a porous OL and a QB that is a poor passer. This gives the QB some quick, easy throws.

It has to do with dobbs not being able to hit a 10 yard radius around a receiver 10+ yards down the field. We have to resort to screens and curls because that's are only good shot of maybe completing a pass. I'm just so glad everyone is off the Dobbs bandwagon now. I was never on the bandwagon and got bashed week after week because i always said he wasn't that good. Well now Yall see what i've seen since he has started.

So we can throw easy 15-20 yard passes to the side, with corners and lbs ready to jump the play, but not forward ? We don't even try. Our WR recruiting is going to fall to 2* who VN will claim is one of Butch's diamonds in the rough like Cam Sutton was

I think one reason yesterday was the turf. If the DB slips, we have a big gain off a normally safe pass. I think we were rolling the dice with house odds. Didn't pay off, but not a bad gamble.

Sometimes they'll call one if they see the DBs are keeping their weight on their heels. Lots of reasons for their use: some strategic, some tactical, some just opportunistic at the line of scrimmage.
