Ok. People keep saying this but can someone please provide me a single example where Dobbs arm cost us a game?

Against Florida, he took us into FG range in the last minute of the game with his arm after we barely attempted any passes all game long. If not for the clock mismanagement, he possibly completes the comeback.

There was only 1 game last year where we fell behind by more than 7 points. It was against Georgia when we fell behind 21 points. Butch has no choice but to scrap his conservative gameplan and try to win the game with Dobbs arm. Josh responded with the best game of his career. 300+ yards passing. 100+ yards rushing. 5 TDs.

Against Alabama it was the offensive lines inability to block the Bama d-line that cost us the game. Before the final drive, Josh put us in position to win with those back to back long completions.


I've yet to see us lose a game because of Dobbs. In fact the opposite is true. Dobbs usually wins us the game when we put it all on his shoulders (South Carolina 2014 and Georgia 2015).


Too bad Butch Jones only trusts Josh when we're down 2 TDs or more.

I love love Josh Dobbs, so this is not me trying to dis him, but it is his arm and inaccuracy. If he improves this year we could be in playoff contention. If not, it will cost us at some point.

How about vs Oklahoma....he was 13-31 passing. Throw in Arky as well where the coaches seemed to get completely away from the run game in the second half and tried to make Josh win it from the pocket....and he didn't/couldn't . He was bad that game.

Unfortunately, I would agree that Jones tends to not let Dobbs throw the ball down the field unless we're down late and forced to abandon the run. However, Arkansas was the exception last year, and Josh failed to deliver.

Following your logic...you're saying TN (under CBJ) will forever be no better than 9-3. So, your next logical conclusion would be that TN must have a new head coach to win 10 games or more.

My conclusion...you're wrong, and "crow" is on your 2016 menu.

Agreed. I'm not a Dobbs hater, but that Arkansas game was a pretty inept passing demonstration

there are less questions for team 120, than 119. but there are some questions still. D Line depth isn't what we thought it would be, so how does that translate in the 4th qtr again this year? can we get over that hump defensively with the depth we have now?

WR is still a big question mark.

Dobbs and the passing game is a question mark.

intangibles is a question mark as well. we don't know how all the off field stuff will affect this team. we hear that it doesn't. i want to believe that, but with that level of attention, it's hard not to believe that it won't have some affect.

i think we have less questions about the O Line and RB's, so that's a huge plus.

LB, DB/Safety, while there may be questions, it certainly seems like we have our choice of answers.

all in all, i think this season, from a physical ability standpoint, comes down to Dobbs and the passing game improving or not.

the best way to help the defense is to churn out 1st downs. having an improved passing game will help the run game immensely....

I believe that an improved passing game solves the majority of our problems (based on last season's performance). Now, this entails better offensive line pass protection, better playcalling, and better performance from our wide receivers. However, if Dobbs were to improve his passing ability (not just throwing the ball), then that opens up the doors for the coaches to trust Dobbs' arm, which in turn, influences the playcalling. It's not that difficult of a concept to believe that WR's would perform better if their coaches believe in the QB by actually trusting Dobbs in that they call for more downfield passes. The coaches can say all they want in interviews but until we see them actually trust Dobbs by opening up the playbook then their positive vibes toward the passing game return void.

After an intense look at statistics, measurables, expert opinions, and watching hours of film, this team has one and only one weakness.

They desperately need singing lessons. Most of these guys couldn't carry a tune if their lives depended on it. Since we are going after national championships rather than grammy awards, that may not be a big concern for you.

I worry that Dobbs will be injured early and Dormady, Jones or whoever won't be able to pick up the slack. We do have more depth at more positions than we've had in years so maybe I am being a NegaVol. But it's always a truth in football on any level - a few key injuries can ruin your season. (I still think 10-2 is realistic.)

Have you been under a rock? I think northwestern would tell you different. Oh and considering we were about 4 plays away last year from being a 10 win team. Lmao
