Given that his #1 ranked show has been canceled, what's next for Stephen Colbert? I think he's really funny guy and yeah I understand the politics of it but feel like he's got a place still somewhere.

So what's next?

Stephen Colbert has teased the idea of starting a podcast following the cancellation of *The Late Show with Stephen Colbert*, which is set to end in May 2026 after a 10-season run. During the July 28, 2025, episode of his show, Colbert jokingly asked *Las Culturistas* podcast hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers to "sell" him on podcasting, saying, "I’m going to need a gig soon, so sell me on podcasting. Is it fun?" Yang pitched a podcast concept involving Colbert and his wife, Evelyn "Evie" McGee-Colbert, recapping dates, which Colbert playfully engaged with. The duo even humorously presented him with a "Best Future Podcaster" award. While these interactions were lighthearted, they suggest Colbert is at least considering podcasting as a potential next step.[](https://theblast.com/708312/stephen-colbert-next-project-late-show-cancellation/)[](https://people.com/stephen-colbert-teases-possible-new-career-path-for-after-the-late-show-ends-11780750)[](https://www.eonline.com/news/1420472/stephen-colbert-teases-new-job-after-late-show-canceled)

However, no official confirmation has been made about Colbert launching a podcast. He has also explored other opportunities, such as a guest role on the CBS series *Elsbeth*, where he’ll play a late-night talk show host, indicating he’s keeping his options open. Additionally, posts on X and comments from figures like Jon Batiste suggest Colbert is likely to pursue new projects where he can continue to engage audiences, with podcasting being a plausible avenue given its rising popularity and his expressed interest.[](https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/stephen-colberts-next-move-revealed-after-the-late-show-ends/)[](https://www.tvinsider.com/1206905/stephen-colbert-new-job-elsbeth-late-show-cancellation/)

In summary, while Colbert has not confirmed plans for a podcast, his discussions on *The Late Show* and the current media landscape make it a strong possibility. He appears to be exploring multiple paths, including acting and potentially streaming or digital media.[](https://ew.com/the-late-show-with-stephen-colbert-not-on-this-week-return-date-11787829)[](https://tvnewscheck.com/programming/article/whats-next-for-stephen-colbert-after-the-late-show-cancellation/)

I’m far more interested in what happens to the Ed Sullivan Theater than where his leftist cult can watch his clown act.

Wokes to the wescue! They will prop him up somewhere.

The two of you with your tired denigration should confine your parroting of Trump’s line to the PF. Poo flinging everywhere across VN doesn’t reflect well on you or the man you idolize.

I’m not familiar with Trump’s line. But I do know that every time I’d switch to that ideologue he was bashing, or tired denigrating if you prefer, everything not leftist.

As far as flinging poo across VN, as you are, the OP didn’t need to spread SC’s crap in here.

So you jump to a conclusion that I’m MAGA? I don’t like Colbert. But I guess that makes me as opinionated as yourself.

Colbert rose to late night prominence by lampooning Trump during his first term. He held onto it during Biden’s term with jokes about Biden’s mannerisms. “Cornpop” and aviator shades never failed to entertain the audiences. Changes in viewing habits and the resulting lower numbers for late night broadcast shows doomed Late Night, not Stephen Colbert, who continues to hold #1 for late night shows.

Republicans have been guests on his show, even before the storming of the Capitol. I recall one episode when Colbert gently admonished the audience for their rancorous objections to one Republican guest, proclaiming that he should have his say and be heard.

Colbert knows on which side his bread is buttered and has played this to the #1 rating. However, he’s remained a fair host to his guests, even if he has lampooned them before and after their appearances. Lampooning is a big part of his comedy shtick.

Colbert may have attempted to spread the love, or tried to impress that he was, but it was his incessant and non-stop TDS monologues and open obvious hatred that did him in. That schtick is burning down to the nub accross all time slots. It's tired, rode hard, and hung up wet. Just like the "popular" girls in HS.

We used to watch him and Jon Stewart years ago when they were both actually funny. Both are just empty shells of their former now.
