whats dooleys safe number

No there's not.

Really? Because I would assume (hopefully) Hart is smart enough to know that NO coach would take the then-vacant UT job knowing we fired our last coach because he couldn't do a 4-5 year rebuilding job in 3 years. Of which one year he suffered some truly devastating injuries

Yeah, the high standards of expecting the team not to get worse every year would really scare people off.

:lolabove: Wrong....9 wins or he'll be unemployed
Unemployed with a 5 million buyout..If the Heads of our program are that stupid after still paying Phil then that is a stupid decision. Give DD time he walked into a dumpster fire and we need the stability. The crazy people that want to fire a coach after a season and 2/3rds rebuilding which is the cause of the 50% attrition rate of us playing all frosh and sophs amaze me.

I think it may be a little more than a number. They keep laying second half stinkers out there well into next year, you have to seriously take a look at making a change. No depth, experience and youth cards to pull at that point. That is a disturbing trend.

He needs to find a running game or it won't get much better. I've heard every theory on here known to man. They need another year in the weight room seems to get the most favoritism. Well Poole had 1000 yards with i guess what you would call babies blocking for him. I'm not sold on the "they need another year in the weight room theory" when that pesky fact keeps popping up. A lot of the second half crap comes right back to the fact they can't sustain any drives and get the tough yard. That doesn't improve then he'll be gone.

He has to beat someone also that is worth a damn, that hasn't happened yet. 8 wins may be a safe number but there are a lot of things that need fixing before he'll get there.

If Dooley wins 5 next year, that's just simply not acceptable. He would have his very own junior, sophomore, and freshman classes, 3 years of implementing his system, and 3 years in a new S&C program. Like the other poster said, we aren't talking about him needing to win the SEC next year, but Dave Hart should certainly be able to expect improvement. 5 wins would signify something really isn't working.

I hope the only safe number we as fans except is 1. As in if we aren't the best team in the nation its not good enough, setteling for mid top 25 teams slipped into top 20 which slipped into the top 25 which slipped into getting into a bowl game during the Fulmer regiem. Don't make excuses for a coach or team, demand for the best and root them on.

He's guaranteed to win five or six games, and he'll keep his job almost no matter what. Too many people here don't think about the long term, and as an AD that's what you have to think about. Dooley is doing a great job getting this program heading in the right direction again with his recruiting, so I don't think he's in any danger at the moment.

That being said, I think we'll win at least 7 games next year with an outside chance at 9. I would be content with 7+bowl, happy with 8, and ecstatic with 9.

Lol you think its the ads choice I mean in the very end sure it kind of is. But if haslam or one of those other big shots goes to hart at the end of this year or next and says this **** is pathetic cut ties with him or forget or money then Dooley is gone

Have you wrote a letter to Haslam yet? Might want to get on that.
probably should go find the coach you want to replace DD and join their fanbase and message board too.

We are Tennessee. Not USClite. You can say "good season" at 9-3, not "ecstatic".

IMO it's not so much "how many" but who we beat.

Damn tired of losing to the bammers....and way past tired of losing to the reptiles.

You'll be the first one to turn over a news van when he does get fired, you'll be accompanied by about 12 other people who will protect Dooley at all cost. You probably kiss an autographed picture of him every night before you go to bed

When I say safe, I mean there isn't a chance they get rid of him. It is not the "get below this and you're fired!" number and for me that number is 8.

According to Wikileaks, Dooley's safe number is 32 right, 14 left, 69 right.

What are you planning to steal from his safe?

Don't know about safe number, but they need to beat someone good like Fl, UA, GA, etc. He's not going to be able to survive if UT doesn't look competitive against that group.

Agree with this. Total number isn't as important as competing with our SECE foes.

Also, I will always say that when Johnny beat Bama in 82 that got him a bunch of years. The same would happen with Dooley.

I hope he is smart enough to realize when you rebuild something it normally happens in phases. In other words you take steps. 6-7, 6-7, 5-7 is regressing not rebuilding.

He may get 4 years either way but if he's coming off 5-7 going into 2013 don't expect much, thats just what you have.

To the number.

7 keeps him here another year. It would be progress albeit very little.

He should win 9. The east is average and our non conference schedule is cake.

8 is very safe...

...but we don't know how TxA&M and Mizzo will effect the schedule.

Also, Another string of key injuries could push the safe number way down.

He can kiss it on these injuries, don't want to hear that year after year. Eventually he is going to have to find a way to work past it like everyone else, and that starts next year.
