What's changed just curious?

Okay I'm curious to hear VN's reason for the change from preseason expectation to now. Several threads conducted back in preseason had input on the record from 6-6 to 11-1 and the majority said 8-4 or better would be a good season because of what was lost and an unproven QB. Then we lose DKjr. 8-4 became more of the prediction.
The 4 losses that most predicted were GA, Bama, LSU and Fla. I said this was a 4 game season and depending on how we did in those 4 games would determine the record at the end of the year. My prediction was 2-2 in those 4 games. We should be 1-1 at this point and the Fla game should never have come down to the final play. The team (coaches & players) did not execute the plays, missed 3 field goals etc...
Anyway we still have a great shot at 9-3 or 8-4 which is still in line with the majority preseason thread picks.

So question is what's changed in regards to CBJ and the team? Were you lying to yourself and VN when you made your predictions? Just curious.

I'm sticking with CBJ and the team until the end of the season. I'll then make my ploy for whether he stays or should go. Not making an emotional decision because they played the worst game possible last week. Happens to everyone at some point. Win this week and we are back on track.

1. When you play two good teams, 8-4 is ****ing awful.
2. Tennessee looks like **** this year and the coach is a laughingstock. It’s borderline sabotage if they let him come back next year.

Nothing changed and that is absolutely the problem! Another year of underdeveloped talent all over the field.

Don't think anyone predicted that Florida would have 9 players suspended, a hurricane, a missed cupcake game, and a lost week of practice prior to us going to the swamp. Don't think anyone predicted that we'd struggle to compete with a winless UMass team until their QB got hurt. Don't think anyone predicted a shutout to Georgia. Don't think anyone predicted that LSU would be in bad enough shape to be beaten by Troy.

The preseason predictions were made before the football landscape changed.

Butch has had 4 years to prepare for the absence of Dobbs and the 2 qbs we have over there look like 2nd stringers for a sun belt team.

OP no offense but I don't see how you think we have a 'great' shot to go 9-3? We squeaked by one of the worst teams in college football. Candy beat a top 25 team, lsu beat Florida, Kentucky almost beat Florida. South Carolina is no slouch. I think if Butch coaches the rest of the season, we may get 8-4 maybe...barely...And who cares since it will prove once again we can only beat scrubs. We currently sit as a top 15 team based on talent. How long should we just deal with it?

If you seen how bad this team looks even when it wins? It's not new, they were the same way in the past but it is finally catching up with them.

I thought we could have a 2 loss season.
I also thought a 5 loss season was possible and said so.

That in no way means the 5 loss season is ok.

If this season was boxing it would have already been stopped. It’s not just the loses. This team is in chaos.

It isn't the record as much as the way we look. The Florida game we were presented with an opportunity with a large chunk of Florida's offense on the bench, we wet the bed.

Followed that up with a decent showing against a cupcake.

Barely squeaked by another cupcake, a game we should have and would have lost if their qb wasn't knocked out of the game.

Played uninterested and uninspired football and got the brakes beat off of us by Georgia.

Did this question really need to be asked?

No way this team finishes 8-4, 5-7 is more in line

I think many did indeed feel we were an 8-4 team, but that in itself is unacceptable in Y5.

The fact we cannot compete for the east at this point in his tenure has those who were on the fence before the season questioning if he ever will. I think the answer is a big ole NO and have a hard time understanding why some still believe he can get it done.

I live solidly in Tennessee, and last week at the grocery store someone told me I was "gutsy" for wearing a UT shirt. The only reason for this is that Butch has made us a laughing stock.

8-4 losing to good teams playing competitive football is much different than going 8-4 playing mostly bad teams and playing bad football.

Not that it matters. We'll be lucky to go 6-6.

I think we expected to see a team that shows its talent but was hampered by the loss of Dobbs and Barnett.

Nobody expected a close game with UMass and the worst home loss in 105 years.

We also didn't expect to see Butch lose his team after 4 games.

Clear it up?

I said 7 wins was our ceiling. Still feel that's the best case scenario. Having said that I won't be surprised if we slip to 6 or even 5 wins. Lose to SC Saturday and 5 is more likely. Can't fathom anything worse than 5-7.

U serious? First, you are delusional if you think Butch can carry this team to 8 wins. None of those predictions included a 41-0 shutout loss to a division rival. A loss to a horrible UF team. A win to the worst BCS team in the country that wouldn't have happened without a qb injury. Or a win to an ACC team that gave up the most rushing yards in school history.

He has never proven he can win big. Last year he proved no matter what happens, he cannot take Tennessee were it wants to be. He had by far the most talented team in the East and lost to SC and Vandy. Butch certainly didn't have my confidence going into this season; however Tennessee was not going to fire a 9-4 coach in his 4th year.

This season no one expected Tennessee to struggle mightily vs UMass. After everyone saw how bad Florida was, many people.......if not most thought Tennessee would beat them.....especially since they were down 10 players. Most thought GA would beat Tennessee; however NO Tennessee team should get beaten by any GA team 41-0 at home.

Butch has recruited well, and most were excited to see some of the young players this season; however this season has shown how undeveloped many players are under Butch's coaching. Also butch has made some terrible coaching/promoting decisions............not to mention some of the awful on field coaching decisions.

What happened to me was thinking QD had a better arm than I've seen thus far and OL hasn't gelled as a unit. Because QD's arm isn't a factor, opposing defenses are keying on shutting Kelly down. Then the coaches aren't adjusting and offensive playcalling is the worse I've seen in Knoxville ever. I was being optimistic when I said 8-4 at beginning of season. I think I'm very wrong.

When it's all said and done TN will end it's season at 6-6. They have lost to FL and GA. They will lose to SC, Alabama, LSU and KY. They may even lose to Vandy. I'm tired of beating a dead horse, but until Butch Jones and his staff are replaced the dream of winning the SEC or the National Championship will only be a dream. I guess we have to live with it...
