What you Won't Hear About This...

I dont think there is a gang member in the world that would rather be in a gang then a famous athlete. Being a D1 football player gives you street cred in itself. WHO EVER CAME UP WITH THIS THEORY SHOULD JUST NEVER POST AGAIN!

"Silence is golden when you cant think of a good answer" - Ali
Being a D1 FB player makes you credible for 4 years. The talented go on to something else in the industry. The other 99% live normal lives.

Maybe you shouldn't post again without an original thought. Your statement is just naive.

Well, when we talk about nfl and nba guys being in gangs, I'm a little skeptical. Pro athletes are 1) wealthy and 2) busy--practices, meetings, travel, etc. College players are very busy too. So pro guys aren't hanging on the streets--unless you mean cruising around in their $100,000 cars. And most are not stupid enough to commit crimes and jeopardize their careers. I can certainly see some athletes--pro or college--having a loose association with outsiders/hangers-on who might be in gangs, and I can see the general appeal of gangs to black players; I mean, young black males have this dumb affinity for guns and gangsta behavior--look at the Burress shooting himself in a bar. A lot depends on how you define being a "gang member." Gang or no gang, drugs or no drugs, far too many young black men do stupid things.

I see your reasoning and agree with you but I think gangs may have more influence then most realize. KG, Paul Pierce and some other Celtics caused a bit of a stir last year for flashing very specific gang signs during basketball games. When the Doc Rivers and Danny Ainge questioned them, they said the signs meant Blood, Sweat and Tears. Later the truth came out and they took some heat over it.

IMO those players are championship pros and are obviously not doing drive-bys yet at some point they had a gang affiliation and probably maintain that affiliation to this day.

Thanks. I am not for sure...and I said that in one of my posts. Rather it is a pellet gun or a 9 is not the issue. And to think that these KIDS are still not attracted to maybe some sort of gang mentality or to assume that they have not been involved at some point in time is not being thoughtful. It is definitely a possibility, and whether they drive a Prius or not has nothing to do with it...and whether they went to a prestigious school or not has nothing to do with it...wake up folks.

I will say this however...the more I am reading about this the more it is looking like a really dumb, thoughtless joke gone bad. If teh lady was laughing in teh car while it was going on then...it looks as if someone thought it was intended to be funny. So, I will take back my statements about it being gang related...

Coming full circle after touting your credibility as a gang specialist? I think you've made a wise move.

what do you guys think?

Alright, Nuke is throwing up a West Side sign which would be the Crips. However, he has a red rag, which is the Bloods. They are rivals so this doesn't make a whole lot of sense. He is probably just playing the part here.

West Side has nothing to do with Bloods or Crips. There are many variations of the Bloods and Crips, and probably thousands of gangs you have never even heard of. There's the Venice Shoreline Crips, Rollin 60 Neighborhood Crips, P Jay Crips all out in Los Angeles. List of California street gangs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Even here in Knoxville we have other gangs like Black Gangster Disciples and the Vice Lords as well as Mexican Mafia affiliates. Gangs are pretty complicated and there is no real East or West side to determine what gang a person is a member of.

I'm sure you know more than I do. I'm from K-town, and a few years back in school, that's how it was. Like I said though, I pretend to be no expert.

This is absolute unfounded speculation that doesn't need to be discussed. There is nothing about this that would make you think it is gang related. If it was gang related, it would have been a real weapon. These kids involved in athletics don't have time for gang activities.

From 99.99% sure to changing your mind? Wow, that 1/100th of a percent came to pass?

I don't think gangs use pellet pistols to commit crimes...ever heard of a drive by where a house gets pellet'ed up?

But, I don't think it's a stretch to say it was drug-related when there were drugs found in the car.

Shows how much you know about this subject, really.

NEWS FLASH: college kids who smoke weed are pretty common!

I was once pulled over for speeding, and I had a dimebag in my pocket. Was my motive for speeding to get to my dealer faster? No.

It's like someone already said in this thread, they're star athletes, they can get it for free if they want it. This crime was pure stupidity/peer pressure. The last place Knoxville gangs go to recruit is UTK. Trust me.

Lets not be naive to think there are not any college football players that have gang ties.... Of course some do. This situation was not gang related, but I would bet someone on UT's team has gang ties.

I'm pretty sure that anyone popping their crime cherry for a gang would probably get their membership revoked when it came out that they used a prius (sp?) for a getaway car. Unless of coarse it was the dreaded Bay Area Liberals who were recruiting. (That might explain the pellet gun too.)

Most of the guys who get into gangs do it when they are just entering adolescence... very few of those actually last long enough in school unless they are one of a million kids playing pretend.

Drop these 3 off in South Compton at 2AM, the way they dress and hold themselves, and they'd be lucky to make it out with their shoes.

Maybe I need to update my "gang knowledge", but why would a rising star football player have any interest in being part of a gang? But who knows, you could very well be right.

Nukeese isn't just interested. He is a "Blood" to let you know actually. About 90% sure on this.

RE: Gangs in Pahokee;

"Last Sept. 26, Pahokee beat Jupiter in its homecoming game, and linebacker/tight end Norman Griffith went to a community center for a dance. He was shot to death by a 16-year-old student. He was being recruited by Iowa State."

"Most of the crime is coming from West Palm and Fort Lauderdale," he said. "For some reason the gangs are converging here. But I've been here my whole life."

Central Florida puts on a real talent show | pahokee, year, glades - Sports - The Orange County Register

There's a lot of different reasons why people are afraid to talk," he said. "The gang members scare people. Happens in your neighborhood. There's gangs in Pahokee. There's probably gang members that go to your school."

Wallace said 60 percent to 80 percent of all violent crime in the area is related to gangs. "We've had gang members in fifth grade selling drugs at the elementary school," he said.
