Very enlightened post. Thanks. This actually makes a little more sense than the crap I read earlier. I joined a gang when I was 13 years old and didn't leave until I went to college. Gangs are "family" in the streets, and with no father figure around and mom is always at work, no body is there to tell you any different. Teachers don't care because they see it all the time. But, these guys were on the road to a future better than the streets. In the streets, that wouldn't be respected, that would be considered, stupid. I haven't met a gang banger that wouldn't rather be playing football for a living, rather than being on the corner with a gun under your belt
I work with kids who are involved in gangs and who have come through the system. I am about 99.99% sure this is gang related. That may sound far-fetched to some of you who are not familiar with how it works, but I am willing to bet my house on it. It was probably an initiation into a gang. I would not be surprised if a "petty crime" was the way in and that the driver of the car (female) was one of the gang's ladies. It happens all the time and this screams gang related.
This is so sad...way beyond football. These kids pretty much just ruined their lives for street cred.
Drugs were involved, nuff said. As long as SEC teams (maybe except vandy) recruit these inner city kids that can't spell their own name then there are going to be problems. I would like to see the SEC tighten the restrictions but unfortunately it going to take some player or coach getting killed to do it.
How about the possibility that this was done by a couple dumb, bored 18 year olds who wanted money for drugs? Why make this more complicated than it needs to be?
I don't understand why everyone thinks drugs had anything to do with the motivation for this crime. They had weed in the car. On top of the fact, they are young black football players. Two of which are very well known in east Tennessee. All they have to do is ask for a bag of weed and its theirs.
Well, I figured there was some motive for doing it. They are given everything they need. I doubt the girl they were with could get drugs anytime she wanted them for free. It was probably a combination of her talking them into it and boredom. But, I don't think it's a stretch to say it was drug-related when there were drugs found in the car.

Simple answer: That worked real well for Ray Lewis in Atlanta.I dont think there is a gang member in the world that would rather be in a gang then a famous athlete. Being a D1 football player gives you street cred in itself. WHO EVER CAME UP WITH THIS THEORY SHOULD JUST NEVER POST AGAIN!
