think about it... the top 4 teams would probably be...

1.North Carolina
2.Kansas
3.Oregon
4.UCLA (assuming Afflalo returns)

The number 5 spot is up for grabs... with the assumption that these players leave, i believe UT has a good chance of a top 5 preseason spot..

1. Florida - Noah, Horford, Brewer... and Humphrey is a
senior

2. Ohio State - Oden.. and Lewis is a senior

3. G'town - Hibbert, and possibly Jeff Green which are
there top 2 scorers

4. Memphis - Douglas-Roberts... and Jeremy Hunt is a
senior and these are there top 2 scorers

Now those are the elite 8 teams and i felt we were the 9th best team in the tournament, so with these assumptions and with the experienced players that UT has being in the tournament 2 straight years and the sweet 16 once, i believe we should be in serious consideration for a top 5 spot... that is if all the players that i listed leave early

It's nice to have a big pre-season ranking, but it means very little.

The 2000 UT men opened the season in the top 10 of both polls...even worked our way into the top 5 during December...I'm pretty sure we finished the season unranked.

You're thinking about 2001. 2000 was the last time we blew a lead in the Sweet 16.

Anyone else remember one of the last times one of our teams had a high preseason ranking. the sport was football and the year was 2005, we finished 5-6. yes I'm sure we all remember. I don't know that I want a high ranking after that

I would be surprised if Memphis isn't top 3 preseason.

We only lose one player-- Hunt.

And check out these two recruits we have coming in:
YouTube - Derrick Rose DVD Clip
Point Guard Derek Rose: the #3 high school player in the country

Class of 2007 - High School Basketball Videos
Forward Jeff Robinson (Click on his name)

and a 6'11'' center.

Plus in 2008 we have two 6'9'' identical twins coming to play....

I agree. Unless Dorsey loses his mind and declares for the Draft, the Tigers will be a possible preseason #1, if the players expected to leave school from UNC and Kansas in fact do so.

Has Durant declared for the NBA? If not then you have to put them up there. Not saying they are that good, but with the media's love affair with Durant and the lack of respect we get in the coaches poll, Texas will undoubtedly be ranked ahead of us preseason.

I'd enjoy a top 10 ranking or top 5 ranking. It would give the program alil extra highlight, but I'd rather have the team end in the season in the top 5.

so r u saying that we could possibly be ranked number one??:dance2:
To make an educated and respectable Preseason poll for college basketball, one must wait until the end of the summer at the earliest.

But, UT doesn't have any freshman coming in that are good enough to be drafted today. A few prestigious schools around the country do.
