Take yourself back to last winter after Clawson and his staff were announced to be coming to UT. What would your reaction be if you were told that Clawson would fail miserably, UT would go 4-8, Philip Fulmer would be fired and replaced by Lane Kiffin and he would bring Monte Kiffin, Coach O, David Reaves and host of possible other candidates with him? Would you have believed it? Would you have been happy, angry, disappointed, excited, etc.....?

I'm not sure how I would have felt about it but, after having lived through the frustrations of this year(and previous recent years), it was completely worth it. It was worth every embarassing moment on the field and every sad moment seeing Fulmer on/off the field. The energy infused in to our program is infectious and irreplaceable. I feel more positive about the direction UT football is heading than I have since 1998. I want to say thank you to MH. You made a gutsy move that will either make or break your career. I think it will cement you as a legend at UT in a place known for being conservative.

Interesting thought. If faced with that knowledge, it would be bittersweet. I wouldn't want to sit through a miserable season, but I would know that it would be necessary. It was the only way PF was gonna get out of here.

I'm glad we didn't hit bottom and keep digging. I'm glad we are headed back to the top, regardless of which route we're taking.

I'm glad when the bama fan and the auburn fan look my way, there is an uneasyness that wasn't there last year.

Heck yeah!! Bring it on!!!!

I really wish that it wouldn't have ended the way that it ended for Phillip, but he did have plenty of opportunities to do something about it.

I am very excited about the change happening and can't wait to see what the Kiffins can do with this program.

if they said we would go 4-8 I would call them a liar. I could buy 5-7....

but I would still say it wasn't worth it

Gainesvol, I whole-heartedly agree with your take on Mike Hamilton. This guy has done nothing BUT make moves that will (and have) benefitted the university. Doug Dickey wouldn't have made that move. Thank God for MH!

I recommend you let Kiffin and Co. at least win a few games before extolling this coaching change as "completely worth it". There was plenty of excitment heading into last season with Clawson too.

So far so good...but you're right: we have to play the game before we'll have tangible measures to base our opinions upon. But...you gotta love what LK is doing so far. He said he wanted to put a fence around the state in terms of recruiting, and he's doing that with the re-committment of the Goodpasture kid (can't remember his name?).

I was touting Clawson a good bit last year to my SC buddies. This year, even though I am equally optimistic if not more so, I'm scaling it back a bit. I lost some clout with Clawson.

I like the Kiffin hire and I'm drinking his koolaide. But on the heals of ushersing out one the of the most successful coaches of in CFB history it's a little premature to praise CLK before he coaches a practice, let alone a game.

It was a long 12 months of not knowing what the hell was going on....on or off the field. I still look back at the past year of UT football and say, What the hell was that?

Quite frankly I am not sure we have struck fear in the hearts of our opponents since the days of General Neyland...but I do believe we have for year after year been respected as a football power to be reckoned with and not taken lightly, until very very recently.

I am looking forward to the days when we again earn this respect, and I am a believer that could come as soon as 09. To be feared, i.e. USC, Florida (gag), may take a few more years.

Results on the field will speak for themselves. I'm not predicting anything. The end result has yet to be determined but I am more excited about UT football than I have been in years. I'm purely speaking as a fan who feels the recent struggles have been worth it if the end result is bringing the Kiffins and Coach O to the Hill.

It's premature to praise him gameday coaching abilities. It's not premature to praise the staff he is putting together, his recruiting actions or the way he has carried himself since taking the job.

I knew it was just a matter of time until Phil's luck ran out. I mean, come on, even look at the luck involved in the '98 NC season. Syracuse and Arky, and if UCLA and K. St. won their last games, we may not have even played in the Fiesta. In 2005 and 2008 the clock struck midnight!

And Phil turned back into The Great Pumpkin!

i am of the mentality of performance. If you dont perform, see ya. I knew clawson wasnt gonna be great last year, i didnt expect him to be bad, but when was the last time fulmer was good without cutcliffe? UT-DC=5-7 simple equation. I am stoked about the new staff, and that the rest of the SEC is going to be pissing themself. (See my post in anther thread on my coach's reaction)

Just out of curiosity, what NC team do you think didn't need luck to win?
