What would you have done?

You're talking to somebody who has taught his kids (ages 2 and 5) that orange and blue NEVER go together. They complain if my wife forgets and gives them an orange plate with a blue cup. I think you did the right thing.

You should have picked it up and made the "I'm wiping my azz with it gesture".....just to help make your point before giving it back

my opinion is that you fail as a dad for making your young son give up something he wanted because of your own selfish needs, and now you are getting on here trying to convince yourself and others that you were cool and a vfl because you took your sons doll away.

Where's the dislike button!

Seriously, though. Couldn't you have just taken its shirt off? Then it would just be a regular gator, not affiliated with that sorry bunch down in stinkville.

How about no. My wife and I were just laughing about it yesterday at work and I thought it would be an interesting story to post on VN. My son likes his dog Billy and doesn't have a real care about others. I told him that we would get him a much cooler Dog to be friends with Billy and that it would be nice to give the Gator as a gift. It all worked out.

Now that doesn't stop my wife from giving me a hard time. But we pick at each other all day at work. I fire her "jokingly" twice a week with customers there. Usually because I did something wrong.

Point is, life has much more to offer than worrying about how I feel about a Gator Doll.

But you're going to make it into something it's not. Have fun with that.

My sister-in-law nicknamed my son 'Gator'...

It's the only time in my life I've ever hit a woman...

Kidding.

My five year old would not pick out a gator toy. Lol. He yells at GA fans that GA sucks when he sees them out. I live in GA too. I taught him early though.

At the end of it all, I just read a story about a UT fan that paid $53 for a Florida doll. My stomach hurts...

:p

I would've taken it to the range for some much needed gator target practice..

I would have done the same. EVERYONE in my family knows better than to get my 2 yr. old son anything that has to do with alligators or elephants. This is why my son has as much orange and white in his wardrobe as I do. Start 'em early...VFL.
Is that him in your avatar with the blue outfit on?

Just a gator doll wouldn't have been all that bad but when they put the blue/orange shirt on him, that's when it got all fubar.

Sounds like you Brother is the @$$ here not you.
Get Even. Tell your mom he was trolling her under the bus on this one. That everyone should only ever get him UT gear for every gift for at least 10years. :)

Has it already been discussed that "Volenteer" is spelled wrong? I am by no means the smartest guy around, but....

WWDD... That's the better question!

Sounds like you handled the situation extreamly well. You know you must now "help" your son pickout the correct stuffed animal/toy/whatever. This way he can be proud of his choice because he made it but you can continue to "guide" him on the path to being a great fan of the University of Tennessee.

Should have destroyed the bear and involved the kid. Start that hatred of UF early. Let him do the dirty work. Make sure though that he understands it is only acceptable to hate all things UF.

Nothing wrong at all, your a Vol fan that's what we do. My 16 year old came home 4 years ago mad at the vols and wanted to know if i would be mad if he was a bama fan. I told him he could be whatever he wanted to be, but if he wanted to pull for bama he would have to move out. The grandparents feel the same as I do so no need to ask them about living with them. My wife said not to be like that told her she could move also. I love my son and my wife more than anything but you have to set limits on your kids if not no telling how they will turn out. HAHA!!!

I actually found myself in a similar situation. I married (got smart and divorced) a lady from Tuscaloosa, yeah I know. Well she could care less about AL but her family was all die hards. They all new I was a UT fan and for my sons baby shower a couple of her aunt and uncles decided to buy AL stuff. I would not take it home and eventually caused a lot of those idiot to get pissed off. For some reason they thought I was beefing an ass cause I was choosing my sons allegiance. Whatever. No way in earth my son would ever wear another teams stuff. They still try to turn him to the tide but he is 7 now and absolutely hates them. JUST LIKE HIS DADDY!
