What would you consider a disappointing season?

I would be pretty shocked if they did. They have the talent, but there are holes on that roster that have not been solved.

QB is a huge question mark with Simpson. Their defense overall is questionable. They have a lot of talent, but they were pretty bad last year, and DeBoer is not a defensive mastermind.
Bama loses three games again misses the playoff this season and they fire Debore.

Anything worse than 8-4 is a really bad season. If we had more certainty at QB or receiver I would say 9-3 but there are just too many unknowns there. But we should handle our cupcakes, beat Syracuse, and win all home games except maybe UGA. That gives us 7 wins. We SHOULD beat Miss St and Kentucky.....that's 9. The only home game that may be an issue outside of UGA is OU....but I still think we win that. 8-4 is the floor.....9-3 is more likely....10-2 is playoff worthy.

I’ve been one of the 6-6 guys. I hate that. I really morn the loss of the excitement I used to have leading up to the first Saturday of the season. Maybe it’s year after year of unrealistic expectations or the agonizing losses of games the Vols were picked to win. I just don’t get amped for football now. I hope that will change starting this year … but this team doesn’t look like they are headed that direction. I’d love to be so so wrong and for them to go back to the playoff. Most position groups have enough concerns to case doubt on winning 7 or 8 (at least to me). I hope you guys can convince me to get fired up and that this team is going to surprise me. Please do! Tennessee Football is one of the things that makes the fall the best season of the year. I miss the excitement and want it back.
Do you remember where we were when Heupel got here. How about 2022? On 22 and 24 we overperformed expectations! How did we underperform or disappoint you in 2022 or 24? How about last year making it to the playoffs. Under Heupel we have made big strides, we have beaten Florida and Bama 2 out of the last 3 years. Heupel appears to be bringing in another strong class for the second year in a row. I don’t see how anybody can’t be encouraged since Heupel took over. The SEC is a tough conference but under Heupel we have and will continue to improve and be competitive. Anything under 8-4 would be a disappointment even though we are a young team. But we are capable of 9-3 or 10-2 or even better with the right bounces. Of course with injuries or bad breaks we could do 7-5 or worse. But I expect an exciting season and one that shows everyone this staff and team is for real! GBO

A disappointing season is losing to Kentucky, Miss St., Arkansas, Vanderbilt, or Florida/ Syracuse. if we squander any of those games, it’s going to be a hard pill to swallow.

I’ll handle losing to Syracuse or Florida gracefully, but not both.
As a 14 point favorite in what will basically be a home game? I won't

A WHOLE lot depends on injuries.

If Joey A and Merk go down and out, expecting G-Mac to be Peyton is quite the stretch. If any combination of two from Matthews, Brazzell or Kitselman get season ending injuries, we have issues that can make the season difficult.

Being thin in some rooms and unsure about others mean injuries could be a big deal this year.

I'm on record calling 9-3. I'll accept 8-4. Below that, injury issues like above had BETTER be involved or Heupel gets the hairy eyeball from me.

That’s the logical conclusion to make based on the spread. I am pumping the brakes on the offensive line hype for the opening week. We have so little experience that I’ll be relieved if we only manage a couple of bad snaps and a handful of false starts.

We essentially have an entirely new team on offense.

Three returning starters on offense ( 2 of those guys are in red jerseys), eight defensively and two specialists, I am sitting on the sidelines with no expectations right now. I believe we're underrated but need some confirmation first. D will be outstanding.
This is where I am too. There are just too many unknowns with the personnel on offense this year and so many young players across the board. However, I do expect the defense to be really good this year. I was encouraged to hear coach G praise a few guys in that video the other day. He doesn't usually do that unless the play is at the highest level. Linebackers are solid and I think we'll be good at safety and corner as well.

I’ve seen several prognosticators picking us to go 7-5 and even 6-6 and one guy saying we could be like FSU last year and have losing season. It just pisses me off that so many people are sliding us way down in the rankings and writing us off. I hope this motivates our boys to come out and prove them fools wrong. Personally i got us going 9-3 this season and while i would love for us to be back in the playoff again im not expecting a return trip this season but i could live with 9-3 or even 8-4 but anything worse than that then i will be disappointed with. What about you guys and what would you consider a disappointment this season? 7-5 or 6-6 to me barring a rash of injuries would be an awful season.
11-2 would really singe my biscuit. A loss in the swamp then losing the first round in the playoffs would be horrible.

Less than 8 wins in the regular season. I’m predicting 9-3 if all goes well and 10-2 if we play a perfect game and catch some breaks against one of the games I see us losing (UGA//Bama/UF). But we play some other games we could lose if we don’t play well - OU/Arkansas/Syracuse/Kentucky/Miss State.

Anything worse than 8-4 is very disappointing given the schedule. Could be an average team and flirt with 9-3 pretty easily.

7-5.

Even the best programs over the last 20 years will have 8-4/9-3 years from time to time. Turnover is a bitch and the way it happened could handicap us. I've never said a word about our QB last year, but I thought this would be his year to grow into a real asset. Unfortunately, he left us high and dry at one of the worst possible times, so though I go into the season wanting more, I wouldn't be overly disappointed with an 8-4 year.
