That would be a great choice if you ask me. Recruits great (has a good base in Texas and Florida), an overachiever, teams play hard for him. What do you think?

could bring us back to the elite status.Considering everything he would have here compared to missouri.A better coach than fulmer.I wish they would hire a good defensive minded coach, someone like saban,carroll,stoops....

I maybe dreaming this but I thought he was kinda on the hot seat until the big year he had last year. I dunno though. I kinda for a Volnation coaching staff, everybody could have a small job and I know we could do better than what we have.

I'm sure those guys would be good eventually - but we need to go after a proven head coach IMO if things do change after the season.

Who is a proven coach that you think would be willing to move? I would like to see Bronco here but I don't think he is moving, Turner Gill would be a great pick up but I see him in a different color of orange next year. Syracuse. Who else do you think would be open for it Bruno?

No idea - but that's why I'm not the AD hahah.

But - either way, personally, I'd just feel more comfortable with a guy with head coaching experience.

Timing is always the key - difference between getting a coach you'll be rid of in 3-4 years or stealing the next Urban Meyer.. I just hope we don't have to experience what Bama and Georgia had to go through to find a solid coach.

I personally like Pinkel...He is for sure my 2nd choice but a strong 2nd...He would bring a interesting twist to the team that's for sure.

I'd rather go after Bob Stoops at OU---proven track record of long-term success. Stoops would come to Ut for the right money.

Living in Saint Louis, I am inundated by the local media singing the praises of Pinkel and the Missou Tigers. Yes, Pinkel is a "good" coach and a "very good" recruiter. However, his strengths are only on the offensive side of the game. His defenses are highly suspect. On the other hand, when you average 50+ a game, a mediocre defense is good enough (at least until you play Stoops' OU squad). His recent success is because of QB, Chase Daniel, who is unbelievable at running Pinkel's spread offense. He sees the field better than any college QB I have ever seen (and I have been a serious college football fan since 1965), has a very quick release, is unbelievably accurate, and is extremely football smart (sort of the antithesis of JC). He also has the benefit of having run the same "spread" offense since his days as a 5*recruit out of South Lake Carroll HS in Texas. Pinkel deserves credit for pulling him to Missou but the truth is Texas, OU and LSU had little interest in him because of his stature. He is listed at 5'-11" but in reality is no more than 5'-9". Texas thought they had Perilloux from the same class until he changed his mind (ala Chris Sims) and jumped to LSU. They did make a late charge for Daniels but to the kid's credit he stuck by his commitment to Pinkel and MU. When Daniel leaves MU they will slip back to reality on the national stage. They might remain a decent team but will not be a consistent top 25 program. I doubt that Pinkel could be the "Savior" that many fans on this site are longing for in Knoxville. In my opinion, if and when, Fulmer moves on, it will be very difficult to find a coach who can step in and have the immediate impact of a Miles or a Saban. I also believe you must go for someone who preaches defense and special teams play before offense. He had also better be a hell of a recruiter if he is going to compete in the SEC. I have no names on my "short list" as I think it is a moot point. CPF is not going anywhere for at least a few more years.

I would echo this analysis and add that Pinkel's defenses get tired because of the time they spend on the field. I read a ridiculous stat on MU that said they score about every 4.5 plays, or something obscene like that. I've watched Pinkel for that past four or five years and this year and last year are mostly Chase Daniels and the elite receiving corp that Pinkel has recruited. They have a kunga line of really fast pass catchers and an All American tight end in Chase Coffman. I still think he recruits too small for the SEC.
He looks great in sun glasses. Drives a Harley. Cool dude.

Syracuse might go after Lane Kiffen just because the athletic director came from USC. No source just throwing that out there.
