What will Phil do next?

Phil left us a full cupboard, oh wait.

Mark Schlabach (ESPN) - Derek Dooley needs all the help that he can get. Let me tell you that right now. They are going to be lucky to win 4 or 5 games. They are going to be bad.

Host - Now why is that Mark, Is that to do with Lane Kiffin?

Mark Schlabach (ESPN) - To be honest with you it goes even goes back further than that. There is a reason that Fulmer was fired. They did not recruit well Fulmer’s last couple of years in Knoxville and when they did recruit well most of the guys were getting kick out of school. There was a lot of attrition the last couple of years under Fulmer obviously there was a lot of attrition when Kiffin bolted. There are just not enough bodies. They are looking at playing 2-3 true freshmen on the offensive line and you just cannot do that in the SEC.

You said Kiffin ran off Phil’s Jr’s and Sr's then named a 2nd string Sophomore Clemson QB and a RB playing for LA Tech. Wow, they would have made all of the difference today.

No, I didn't say any of the players Kiffin ran off would have made a difference today. You just said that. I was only strengthen the previous statement that you can't blame "today" on Fulmer.

I was on board with the Fulmer firing. I wanted Kelley over Kiffin, but I jumped on the Kiffin bandwagon once he was here. With that said, Kiffin hurt this program in one year more than Fulmer did in one year. Fulmer's multiple years hurt it more than Kiffin's total, but Kiffin's has the 1 year record for most damage to the program. The best thing to all of this is that it should get Hamilton out of here who is the head of the problems.

How can you isolate it to just one year that Fulmer ruined things?

It was collective. Yes, Kiffin hurt the program when he left. That happens almost every time a coach leaves a school of his own accord. Fulmer was rightfully fired for accomplishing approximately jack squat over the period of four years (more like a decade or so, really, but the last four were the worst) and left us with no talent.

Did you read my post. That's what I said. I said Fulmer did more total damage to the program than Kiffin. But, Kiffin did more in one year than Fulmer ever did in just "one season."

The p[oint is Fulmer hurt the program, but we are to the point of getting past Fulmer. Today is not something you can blame on Fulmer. Today was more on Kiffin and Dooley.

Hamilton is responsible for all three situations, so he is the root cause.

Phil will cash his check, make some snide remarks about Tennessee on national television, and made the heavy decision in his life...what else is for dinner?

A good body of work. Would appear that one bad season got Phil the ax. As well, it would appear that someone was out to get his job.

2007 was probably the second luckiest year in Phil's tenure. You don't lose by 39 points to your East rival and go to the SEC title game. Most fans will tell you that we got lucky that year to be in the title game.

Hardesty, Crompton, and Williams weren't draftable players in their junior years. I look at those three players as Kiffin draftees, once again showing how phenomenal Phil's coaching was.

Those of you saying this isn't Phil's fault must still be butt hurt over Kiffin leaving. Our ridiculous current lack of depth on the lines and poor QB play can all be traced back to Phil's incompetence.

We did get Lucky that UF lost a few times, but going 6-2 in the sec isnt luck.
Hardesty would have got playing time if he wasnt hurt his first 3 years Phil rotated him alot with Foster, but the kid was always hurt. Monte helped Williams, but lets face it he would have done fine in a Chavis D again he was always hurt during Phils Tenure. Cromton recruited by Phil was recruited to play under Cutcliffs system not the clawfense and a QB duel. We saw his potential at the end of last season because he was in a pro style system similar to cutcliffs and he wasnt fighting to keep his job.

So we can say oh they got drafted because of Lane, but in reality 2 of the 3 were hurt there first 3 years on campus.

I don't understand why so many posters in this forum are trying to give the credit for this victory to the former head coach.

Coach Fulmer had no input on the game plan, play calling, adjustments, or the player motivation in this game. That was all on Coach Dooley.

I think we should all congratulate Coach Dooley on one of the most significant victories of his career.

Actually, Kiffin cleaned house so he could get his guys in here which is what depleted the scholorshiped players who would be Jrs and Srs now. I am not trying to say Fulmer should still be here, because it was past time for him to go. But, the lack of Jrs and Srs is more on Kiffin than Fulmer now. It's time to come to the realization that we can't blame Fulmer anymore. It's almost as bad in anopposite way as the Bama fans hanging onto the Bear.

Yet your only examples are a RB for LA Tech who quit and a 2nd string QB for Clemson.

I don't think anyone is denying Kiffin cleaned house. Are you trying to say Kiffin did NOT clean house and kept everyone that was here when Kiffin arrived? Please clarify.

Apparently your definition of “clean house” is quitters and folks booted due to academic or discipline problems.

How exactly did Kiffin "clean house"? Give me a list of players that were "cleaned out". Most of them either had poor academics or off-field issues, which again can be traced back to Fulmer's recruiting.
