Assuming Russell is gone, there are several scenarios:

My favorite one is:

Thompson back to LBs, Sirmon to safeties, and hiring an elite DL coach.

Hinshaw will move to WR coach. Graham RB/TE coach, and Dooley over special teams.

Other possibilities:

Hire strictly a special teams coach?
Hire a QB coach?
Hire a WR coach?
Hire someone over TE/ST just like Russell was.

I doubt DD is going to coach STs himself. My best guess is hiring a ST coach and letting Graham coach TEs too.

I'd like to see us hire a guy who is strictly the special teams coach. Graham or Hinshaw could take tight ends.

I think it's already been said that Hinshaw will coach WR, and Chaney will take QB's

I am pretty sure that the defensive side of things will stay the same. I could see possibly Dooley hiring another WR coach, just because of the talent we have, and making sure they develop right.

BUT....the obvious need is a ST coach, and I think he knows that. Shoot, anyone does.

But then again...we had one, and didn't do us much good, did it?

I like Lance where he is. Not sure he would like being moved back down. I say hire aTE/Special teams Guy and let Jay focus strictly on RBs. They need all his teaching they can get. We have guys that can be really good I believe They just needed their own coach to get in there and work with them. Finally a good decision by Dooley.

Maybe if we offer enough money, Honey Badger will come coach Special Teams at UT?

Hire a kicking coach. Don't hire a guy who can coach special teams in general, hire a guy or gal who can teach kicking techniques for kick offs, field goals and punting. CDD or any of the assistants can coach the STs but we need someone to take our young talented kickers and develop them into ice water in the veins type of never miss guys.

We need a new George Cafego./thread

If DD does coach ST, barring any other staff changes, I'd like to see them bring in a punting/kicking guru whose only responsibility would be to work with our kicking specialists.

Even if this is just a 1 year thing I think it could have tremendous benefits.

I would like to see Dooley bring in Rodney Gardner from UGA. He is a stud recruiter and a heck of a DL Coach. At this point you could keep Thompson at DE or ILB’s and let Sirmon take the OLB’s. I would then break up the ST assignments between the coaches.
Field Goal – HH
Field Goal Block – Gardner
Kickoff – Thompson
Kickoff Return – Graham
Punt – Sirmon
Punt Return – DH

Last I could recall, "special teams" encompassed more than just kick coverage - including (shocker) actual kicking as well.

If Russell is going to Wazu, then hire the best ST coach you can find.

I'd hire a full time special teams guy. We don't need Dooley trying to take on a position coach. I would assume that he probably doesn't have the time to devote lots of time to it. I think Thompson is an excellent DL coach, and I see no reason to move he nor Sirmon. They're both good at what they do.

now that Graham is back, either Peyton at QB coach or Al Wilson at LB coach. JMO
