This hire was less about wins and losses and more about perception. National perception, recruiting perception and mostly the fans perception. The national perception is we are a laughing stock with a delusional fan base. This is only changed with a big splash hire. Recruiting perception is that we are a low to mid level sec school that has good facilities. This is also changed by a big splash hire. And finally the fan base. We have endured more than a decade of uninspiring hires and still cheered and supported this university. There are some of you that will just blindly follow whatever garbage the university puts out there, but it leaves out the faction that has seen candy Kentucky Florida Alabama Georgia South Carolina and other rivals all enjoy a national championship during a time when we can't win a division championship when the division is weaker than ever. All of our athletics are screwed. It seems Florida wins a championship in at least one sport every year, we can't hire a football coach that is worth wearing the orange and white. We have endured the up and comer far too long, now our school is a stepping stone to a bigger job. That is the perception. If we do in fact hire Pruitt and he does what you want him to do, ( win championships) who do you think Alabama is going to call when saban steps down? Why wouldn't he go home? This perception also could be fixed with a big splash hire. Even if The big splash didn't win as we want, we would see that the university at least put forth the effort to get the best and unite the fan base and energize them.

Your comment is as bad as the administration assuming what the fanbase will accept.

Dabo. But if Pruitt can win championships here, worrying if he might leave will be a nice problem to have.

Dabo staying put. He's their Bear. And I just can't follow Phil blindly. He nixed our two best coaching candidates for a chance at revenge. It was served cold too!! Not sticking up for Currie, but ouch lol

They won't call Dabo if Pruitt is winning against saban and winning championships. They will call Pruitt. I also said a faction of the fan base. So neither point you made is knowledgeable

Question OP...

Would you rather have a coach win a championship and leave or hire a champion of life again...?

If other people want to hire your coach that means he's doing something right. Not a feeling we have gotten to experience in far too long

You said "big splash hire" four times. The fan bases' problem isn't that it's delusional, it's that it cares too much about winning the press conference.

I won’t believe the national media’s narrative that Fulmer was a boogeyman behind the scenes last week, sabotaging Currie’s every move, until local media reports that.

Above all else, I want a coach who wants to be here. I don’t want anyone who is using TN as a stepping stone. Tennessee is a final destination job, not a temp agency.

If we hire Pruitt we should write in his contract that his buyout is multiplied x100 if he leaves for Alabama.

I want the same and I'm fine with that type of buyout clause but I also want to be relevant again and hopefully he brings us back to that

Pruitt leaving for Bama is the least of my concerns.
I’m far more concerned with whether or not he’d do a good job here.
If you told me right now that Pruitt will do so well over the next seven years at UT that he’ll get the call to be Bama’s next HC and he’ll leave for it, then fine - sign me up for that right now. Lots of coaches would want our job then.

Our débutantes just know what we need, but I know what we want. Mike Leach would have been a blast...

If the Grudeners can do it, so can the Pirates!

I want the university to invest in someone 1/10th as much as this fan base does. We are not all millionaires that our days are fine if we don't win. We feel bad when they lose and elated when they win. We buy their logos, we buy the tickets, give up the weekend camping trips, spend way too much money on hot dogs and sodas, we buy the tv packages. We cry when they lose and yet this university once again appears to try and go the cheap route. We have seen them with base ball basketball volleyball swim team and football go the cheap route. Football alone, majors was the last time they went out and got the big name. Not fulmer( my favorite coach) he was here already on staff. They have repeatedly went cheap. Even Memphis stepped up and paid their coach, other programs are spending 40 and 50 mil on their coaches. Our university seems to want us to continue to "hope" a coach is good instead of making us excited to talk to other people about our team. I wanted and so did many of you the big splash to say we are coming. You guys sit and talk yourselves into accepting another lackluster hire and get all hyped up after talking yourself into it, but wouldn't it have been nice for ut to once just show us that they appreciate us.
