What We Appreciate About Dooley...

1) He does a great job of representing us in our southern style without being a complete embarrassment.

2.) He has kept the players out of jail.

3) He is not ashamed to wear the color orange.

4) He is bringing in great recruits and thus building a solid foundation for the future.

5) Because of him we now get to create a new winning streak against Kentucky.

We need to get behind Dooley, I would rather him win than to fire him

More do than don't. I for one want him to be wildly successful for two reasons.

1) If he is, then Tennessee is!

2) Shut up some of these bigots.

(and before someone tries to make this an argument, I'm talking about the intellectual derelicts of the board, not the fair criticisms)

1. Dooley is the worst recruiter we've had here since Johnny Majors, I like a lot of the players he has brought in but if you look at strait number Dooley averages about 14th nationally and 7th in the SEC, Kiffin's only class was top 3 (I know it was a bust but some of those guys would of stuck around if he hadn't bailed) and Fulmer was constanly pulling in Top 10 classes and top 3 in the SEC.
Sorry but no. Dooley's first two classes avg'd about the same as Fulmer's since 2002. Fulmer recruited before the annual limits went into effect and before Rivals et al changed their scoring to lessen the impact of huge classes. His higher classes were inflated by large numbers of signees.

Kiffin's only class was actually Fulmer's last class for the most part. It was a complete and total bust. It would have been that regardless.

2. I agree with, its great not having half the team in jail over the spring semester but before we go and give Dooley all the credit for cleaning up the program remeber this. He came in after a pretty big house cleaning after the NCAA started looking into the program. Also many dooley fans will be quick to point out he hasn't had time to set his foundation so up untill this season half the players staying out of trouble weren't 'his'.
Kiffin helped by running some dead weight off... but his players weren't disciplined before Dooley arrived either. His impact on discipline was immediate and significant. Fulmer talked about it being a privilege to play for UT... Dooley makes it stick.

You could not have chosen two WORSE things to make your point.

False.

The difference between how disciplined the team was on and off the field between Fulmer and Kiffin was huge. The Pilot deal was bad, but Dooley had Bar Knox so that's a push.

Thought I might try a positive thread...

What are your top 3 favorite things of having Derek Dooley as the coach of the University of Tennessee?

My Top 3:

1) Consistently Solid Recruiting
2) Integrity brought back to the Program (VFL!)
3) Dooley One-Liners to the Media

I enjoy it when Dooley puts Hyams in his place.

I appreciate that he has represented the university well and that he is here to right the ship. I have full confidence that he wants to win and will do everything within his power to do so.

Not necessarily in order-

1) Embraced and continued Vol tradition Day 1
2) Recruited upper echlon classes that actually ENROLLED in the program
3) Poaches other coaches that were successful
4) Represents the University with Dignity
5) Gives "chances" to less "high Profile" but upstanding players to perform. But if they don't, he frees that educational money for the next one.
6) Even though he is educated he can sit through an entire session of Vol Calls
7) He is not Clay Travis
8) He will not punish Mo Couch for beating the he** out of Clay Travis tonight on twitter
9) He will read Mo Couch's tweets to Clay Travis and laugh his a** off
10) After a historic season next year he will give Franklin and Travis on a plate to Mo Coach, but only if Daniel McCullers doesn't eat them first.
11) Calls it like he sees it. Some call it "throwing players under a bus." Sometimes the truth hurts - live with it or move to a society that does not embrace competition.

Phooey. Not going to get into schematics,,,but when some people knowingly decide to rob others, it's a crime. When some people are attacked, then defend themselves, what do you call that?

Other than that - it's great to see a positive thread - keep it up Volnation!!!

I agree that Kiffin had more discipline than Fulmer. I don't think it was a "push" considering the issues with some of the guys Kiffin had brought in even after he left. I don't remember all the specifics but wasn't D Rogers the only Dooley recruit at the Bar Knox fight?

IMO, the attrition due to discipline would have continued to be higher under Kiffin than it has been under Dooley due to both the programs and rules in place and also the character of the players who were signed.

People here mocked Dooley for going after more of a balance between character and talent. I believe there is merit to signing players who can stay on the roster long enough to develop their natural talent... even if it is a little less than someone else. I'm waiting with great interest to see if this formula ends up working.
