What Was Your Most Heartbreaking Moment As A Sports Fan?

The most recent one for me was the BYU game. My son, grandson and myself made the trip, (by the way, I can't wait foe the Vols coming here in 23) any way we got up on them , had it in the bag, and let one by us for 80 yds with 15 seconds left..... I apologized to my grandson for the downer. But I think that really put a cloud over the program along with GA St. Then last year was a complete abortion.

1. The death of Dale Earnhardt Sr.
2. The '96 loss to Florida.
3. Tony Robinson's arrest.
4. Titan's Super Bowl loss.
5. Game 1, 2017 Stanley Cup. Preds get 1st goal/1st game wiped away on a dubious late offsides call. Changed the tone of the entire series.

Without question the night I sat in the Liberty Bowl and watched Fulmer take yet another team loaded with NFL talent and lose to Memphis State. It was heartbreaking. A close second was witnessing the legend Karch Kiraly lose in his final Manhattan Beach Open. I knew I was seeing the absolute GOAT play for the very last time.

The night Peyton got robbed during Heisman announcement. Can’t remember a time I’ve been more disappointed
Yep,I remember Phil Williams boarded a plane and took a screw award (a plaque w a screw attached) and took it to the Downtown Athletic Club and they wouldn’t let him in.

MLB- Braves losing the 2020 NLCS to the dodgers

NBA- When Jordan left my Bulls. We haven’t been the same since, but I keep watching.

NHL- Paul Kariya leaving my ducks for the avalanche.

NCAA Football- Tennessee losing to Texas A&M in double OT to break the undefeated record.

NCAA Basketball- Tennessee getting bounced by Loyola Chicago

NFL- Dallas getting screwed on the Dez Bryant catch in Green Bay

2001 SEC Championship Game.

We started the tradition of making our opponent’s back-ups look like superstars. We later added the “helping slumping opponents get back on track with career highs” to our growing repertoire of ineptitude.

But in all seriousness, that was the strat of our slide into mediocrity and now complete irrelevance. We haven’t even started the climb back up yet.

That loss to Loyola Chicago was a dagger in the heart. Literally another example of us making other teams’ dreams come true.

1968 Orange bowl 26-24 Ok after we were down 19-0 at the half. 2006 alabama 6-3 on a last few second field goal.

Tell us your most heartbreaking moment as a sports fan?

Mine has to be the Texas A&M double overtime loss in 2016.
Or
Florida in 99, first loss after winning the National championship.
06 Florida was rough with that BS roughing the passer call that negated a pick 6.

10 LSU sacked because I called my friend and was all "Tennessee just beat LSU" then the call came that Dooley tried to substitute DL for some reason

15 UF because of the DB doing the one thing you couldn't do and let the guy behind you when they had to get a TD.

Losing to Georgia State. Then having to read about their players talking smack. Pretty certain if there was even 1 bandwagon fan they jumped off after that game.

I remember the LSU game in 2010. Me and my buddies went insane when it appeared we had won. Then of course, the too many men on the field penalty. LSU wins
Fast forward to the Music City Bowl later that season against North Carolina. Crazy ending!!! Me and buddies were at the game and waited until the Ref signaled the game was over to celebrate. The Ref says “There is no time on the clock, the game is over!”

We lost our minds!!!

Then the Ref comes back to the middle of the field, changes his original ruling, puts time back on the clock and the UNC kicker sends the game to OT. UNC wins

Purposely waited to celebrate. Ref said “The game is over” and we still found a way to lose.

That’s Tennessee Football

The Georgia game in early 2000s where we scored a TD, and for some dumb reason, short kicked it. They drove down the field to score to win the game.

The Jabar Gaffney no catch Florida game.

Mine would have to be the 1995 florida game at the swamp. I was in the Pride and when we were on the field getting ready for halftime it felt so good to do the gator chomp back at the Florida student section when they were throwing trash at us. We were pretty much dominating them at that point and were up by 16. Then we crapped the bed in the second half, Florida scored 48 straight, and we walked out of the stadium wondering what in the heck just happened. The only game we lost that season.
