What was the trigger?

Maybe...you should ask The QUEEN of “triggers”

There hasn't been anything magical happen. This is what it looks like when you've got a new offense and a roster that lacks experience and has to play 21 freshmen. They get used to the speed and start figuring things out. They're bound to look look better in October than they did on August.

I must say that I am very confused, but pleasantly surprised to see our 180 degree turnaround. Just curious about what you all think ‘triggered’ this drastic change. How in the heck do we go from CJP showing no emotion whatsoever, making poor in game decisions, having an uninspired team and grossly underachieving against GA State and BYU to all of the sudden, well, turning into the polar opposite of what I just described. What could have caused such a significant turnaround? Did things finally start to click? Was it Maurer? Jennings who ignited the flame? Was it just good timing to run into MS ST when we did? I am baffled. Our coaching, game planning, play calling and execution were horrible and then all of the sudden both the coaching and players improved at the same. Somethings strange here but I’m not complaining.
I think it is a combination of events. The upper class-men have begun to play to their talent level and become leaders. In addition, the Freshmen has gained experience and are not making the mistakes they did in the first 4-5 games. The fans attending the games have also responded to the team's effort with great support. On the other hand, the support for the team and coaches have by, some posters on this board has not been as supported as one would hope.

Remember about this time last year the same thing happened. We beat Auburn and Kentucky and I thought it was light at the end of the tunnel, think I will wait for the seasons end to make a judgement.

Not that I disagree, but people were very concerned last year about the Mizzou/Vanderbilt games because unlike Auburn/Kentucky, their offenses were not one dimensional.

Pretty sure its a combination of several things,
but I think it was very important to consider the halftime comments from Pruitt about wanting to have more aggressive play calling. I think him & Chaney have finally clicked and are on the same page with big risk big reward the ball is going downfield successfully and the playbook opens up. Same on D, we are actually going after the QB and kickers and it is getting results.

Couple that with young players learning and adjusting and rallying behind their coach who has demonstrated he has their back and you get what we have today.

I think that had more to do with Helton already having checked out as he knew he had the Western Kentucky job and there was no game planning going on for either Mizzou or Vandy.

I think it's a combination of a lot of things. Offensively, I have a strong suspicion that the playcalling has been similar all year but when you have a QB who audibles and throws to his first check down 90% of the time it really doesn't matter what plays are being called. That caused a domino effect which sucked the energy out of the rest of the offense, kept the defense on the field way too much, and basically stopped any chance of momentum before it even happened.

I don't think it is 100% on JG though. I think getting rid of some bad apples and getting Bituli back on the field both helped add a spark as well. I do think there was a noticeable difference in energy and performance on both sides of the ball when Maurer started getting playing time.

As posted in another thread, I spoke to a player Saturday night after the game and asked him why he thought they were suddenly playing so good. He responded that they are finally playing together as a team and the team has become close.

I think it is a combination of several factors. I think the thought at the beginning of the year was that JG could limp them to at least 6 wins and a bowl game. This would show marked improvement from last year. It also was pretty obvious that they treated the GaSt game like an exhibition to try to work some things out with a young team. That was coaching malpractice. The team was noticeably different for BYU, but still young and inexperienced. We managed to blow that one and the wheels started to come off. Credit goes to the staff for figuring out what buttons to push and get the team back from the brink. MissSt was a must win and they got it done. If we lose that one, it would have gotten very dark in a hurry. A lot of factors to think about that have already been mentioned...Bituli and Thompson coming back were huge...QB change obviously gave us a spark...the addition by subtraction of some players could have helped as well.

Whatever the reasons, this team and staff have brought it back from the edge of disaster. The main thing now is if they can keep it rolling and finish. 2 road games left will decide it. Win 3 out of 4 and make a bowl game and then we can talk about a successful reclamation.

She is pregnant, so maybe she went to the practice field and yelled at them to get it together

She yelled.. "DON'T MESS WITH MY DISCOUNT" and that is enough to get any man in line. (thanks to State Farm for this message)

I hate to even say this, but I think we could be watching CJP grow into this job.
Why would you hate to tell something that is obvious. Fulmer took Pruitt because he believed he had potential and the character to become a good head coach. Sometimes NFL teams look at a player and if that player possess leadership skills the team may take him in the draft before they take a player who doesn't. Team chemistry is what it is all about. Basketball or football

It wasn't one thing but more than likely the consistency of the coaching staff until it clicked with the players was a big factor.

Pruitt finally changing the QB also played a part... and may have even made JG a little better.

UT also had some guys leave. We're not in a position to call them "poison" or anything like that... but they didn't "fit".

The culture has shifted too. This is a much more physical and aggressive team than the one that played GSU.... and it is across the board including some guys who weren't aggressive then.

I actually saw it transpire the minute Maurer walked out onto the field. It all changed. Suddenly after that it's as if the WIND WAS AT THEIR BACKS. Maurers passion spread like wildfire.
It's like a little kid and his friends being out in a 10 acre field in the late fall when the grass is all dried up. He has some matches in his pocket and he decides to light the dead grass on fire so he sits down and just kind of spreads his legs out to prevent the fire from getting too large but suddenly a gust of wind blows and suddenly the fire escapes the boundary the kid had set with his legs and suddenly the whole 10 acres was on fire.
This is actually a somewhat true story and it happened to me just like the fire spread throughout this whole team.
Everything was already there. It just needed the match. Welcome Brian Maurer.
Lol, is this a joke? Go tell the same thing to Jennings and I bet he laughs in your face.

Better play from the QB, and getting B. Thompson and Bituli back helped also.
