What was the point in hiring White?

I should be especially seeing the low bar set by all the ones UT has hired

But you aren’t. You are just a keyboard warrior who has zero clue as to what it takes to be an athletic director at a big time university.

You are much better suited to just complaining about everything. Hopefully you get to eat some crow in a few years. Of course, you might be complaining even then. I can see it now. We win 8 games and average 30 points a game, you will complain and say we should have won 9 and averaged 40.

Neither does White or any AD hired by UT for the last 20 years

You all loved and worshiped Dooley, Jones and Pruitt also

Hard to see where this idiot is an upgrade

Just in football:
2 losing seasons out of 3
16-19 record
Tons of blowout losses
Paying players (some to ultimately go elsewhere)
Now NCAA sanctions coming

He got a coach to say YES
one with HC experience
One with SEC experience
One who is “amazing” with offense
One who is proven to develop

Even YOU can see this is an upgrade......you simply wanted different.......and that’s OK.

Getting an upgrade from Pruitt is easy. Getting a competent coach for the cheap is why they will continue to suck. This guy will never beat the 3 he has to in order to be competitive for the east or the conference. In 3-4 years we will be here again finding the next incompetent AD and coach

These are all just rationalizations. White is supposed to be a top 5 AD in the country and still came to deal with this mess after being thrown a bunch of money. I don't buy for a second Heupel is the ceiling if you are willing to do what you did with White.
Agree and where in hell do AD "rankings" come from?

From all reports, he tried to money-whip the big time coaches and they all said no. This is as good of a hire as we could reasonably expect with the looming penalties. If his offense works here, he will make the program better, which is more than anyone can say about the last 4 coaches. I'm pleased with the hire, not over the moon. If he can hire a solid staff, I will get excited.
I like to know who said “No”. If we did not have all the following tell us “No” then White failed in the coaching search.
Fleck
Campbell
Franklin
Napier
Herman
Indiana coach-name escapes at the moment.
Elliott
I would add Freeze and Chadwell If not for the NCAA noise in their backgrounds

Simply giving an argument to you saying you can’t even see how this is an upgrade.

With everything that Pruitt and Fulmer allowed on their watch......it’s certainly an upgrade.

Again.....we all can see this. And again it isn’t who you want or expected.....and that’s OK (i understand).

You are right not who I wanted but this is exactly the kind of hire I expected

Lol

Not sure why......should have known better.....but this time.....once again....I thought it “would” be different.

I have come to grips with this. It’s certainly (surely) better than Pruitt. Hopefully his offense can be enough to “sustain” Tennessee while he is building......whatever he builds.

We’ll see....but once again......I’m hopeful.

Yeah I bet they made no reference to beating Georgia, Alabama and Florida. I guess the Administration and White have conceded it’s not an viable option anymore.

Hey, let's never criticize a bad decision and, instead, mock those who make the obvious observations about the problems we have with this hire!

But, hey, this blind acceptance and rationalization we do after every hire, while admonishing those who dare to note the glaring problems, has worked wonders this past decade, hasn't it? Do I need to do the blue font for you to catch the sarcasm or was this dripping in enough of it for you to understand?
I agree that it’s not a top hire but no top coach wants to come to Tennessee regardless of the money. I would have preferred Freeze but Tennessee Administration won’t touch him because of the NCAA investigations. This is simply the best we can do right now. As a alum, it pains me to say that Tennessee football has much more in common with Vanderbilt and Mississippi State than Alabama or Georgia. I can’t say that the Coastal Carolina coach would be any better than Heupel. Franklin turned us down and it’s obvious that we have no chance with Napier. That’s what 15 years of regression and neglect will do a once proud program. That being said, I wish Coach Heupel the best to help rebuild the program.

I honestly didn’t know who Danny White was until last week. That being said, one has to be skeptical of people pumping this “#4 AD in the country” nonsense and this coaching hire screams strike out

early reports White said he had a coach ready to go, is anyone shocked it was Heupel?
‘Tis young, he’s a winner. Can’t say that for some coaches we’ve had. Some of u want Chaney and the old crew. Get over it. Vols needed a clean slate. UCF would have made fools of us in recent years. Glad he’s here...
