that caused the resurgence of this team? Do you think the criticism and frustration of a lot of our fans actually 'helped' this team in a strange way? Sometimes you only find out what you are truly made of when you are down and out and you realize you 'can' just because someone said you 'can't'. Adversity brings out the 'best' in all of us at times. I'm certainly not justifying the criticism but I know personally there have been times that negative comments about me have made me more determined and given me more incentive to succeed. I think the AL loss had a lot to do with it also so maybe it was the combination of those two things and the players and coaches being willing to search themselves for an inner strength they didn't realize they had...whatever it was, we are focused on winning this game with LSU and we all hope this team achieves the success they deserve and worked so hard to attain. GO VOLS!

I think people underestimated the affect that injuries and suspensions played on this team. Especially the secondary. Brad Cottam would have made a huge difference as well. I think the reason is that we have very young and inexperienced players who improved as the year went on. Add that to a schedule that was slightly more favorable on the back side and players who obviously have a lot of heart and you end up where we are at.

I think that is a perfect assessment. If you sit down and make a list of the defensive players lost to injury and suspension that should be on the field right now, it's almost staggering. There are guys that got put on the field for significant snaps in September that would have played sparingly otherwise.

Heart of a team that gelled despite not having a Heisman favorite playing for them.

well, Berry and Vinson made a difference. I think that Foster being in full time helped as well.

our defense is still suspect, i dont really know what improvement everyone sees but i still feel they are playing the same way as they did early in the year, but we are somehow finding ways to win and we are only 7 points away from being 6-6

And last year we were 5 points from being 11-1

What's your point?

Wins are wins and losses are losses.

The whole "points away from" argument is ludacris. That has been pointed out on this board mutliple times before. Of course, that comment is coming from someone who says they dont see any improvement in our defense so I am not surprised by the ridiculousness of the comment.

Sometimes the ball bounces your way, team starts clicking. If there is a time to click it is the end of the season.

"Doesn't matter if it's by and inch or a mile, a win's a win"
what movie?

And i thing this team is the best TEAM we have had in awhile.. where you see guys taking it upon themselves to step up for the entire team, such as G jones blocking or getting that first down, J Mayo laying that hit, Kemp coming off the edge.. they have just busted @$$ and made it happen.

People talk about how we've survived cuz of missed field goals... but Dan Williams busting through the middle for a block is getting it done.

That's really, really, really reaching.

how?, Vandy drove down the field on us to set up a potential game winning fg, South Carolina did the same thing for a game tying field goal, Kentucky drove down field on us for a potential game winning td, and a good snap and Woodson would have gotten the ball to the wide open receiver in the end zone

Do you not understand...

WINS ARE WINS.

LOSSES ARE LOSSES.

In fairness, Vandy had a long return. They did not drive it down the field.

you would have to be blind not to see the improvments on Defense. From the Cal & UF games leaps and bounds. Now they are still inconsistant at times. I think soley due to play calling versus actual skill. Playing zone defense the whole second half and giving up a huge lead for no reason lies soley on the coach. If youve had pressure on the QB all game and kept him to little to no yards why change in the second half.

This goes back to "backing into an SEC title" like we have discussed.

We made our field goal, Vandy missed theirs. We beat SC bad, let them climb back, and won.

How do you know woodson finds an open receiver? the play before he almost threw the game ending INT to vinson... c'mon now.

1) Vandy didn't drive anywhere for that prayer of a FG attempt.

2) I don't see what that has to do with what we are talking about since SC never really got close to having a shot to win the game.

3) First of all Kentucky was lucky the clock didn't expire, and after Woodson picked up the errant snap, he scanned the field for a good 5 or 6 seconds and found nobody open. You have no earthly idea whether a good snap would have changed anything.

i think thats probably what it is, i cant see the improvement because they are inconsistent

well i feel our defense can be better and if they become somewhat consistent we could have one of the top defenses in the country, but as far as improvement i just dont see it... ofcourse Berry has been making plays in the secondary but UK ran the same play about 15 times during the game in which they just threw the ball out to the flats and the receiver picked up big yardage.. i dont kno if its the playcalling or just the players not playing their position

If we get scored on on that little fade pattern from about the five yard line that kentucky ran to johnson i'll flip out. we can't leave a corner alone on a bigger wideout.
