It just popped back into my head and ever since the game I haven't seen anyone bring it up in a thread or if they did I missed it.

It was on a kick-off from Bama and Berry and some other kid(can't remember the name) were in the end-zone to make the catch when Berry jumps in front of him and tells him to kneel instead of running. I remember it only because I'd never seen anything like it. Two receivers deep in the end-zone?! My sister and I were at the game and we were both talking, figuring that had to be a freshman getting an in game rep or something.

Is the blue font not working on my phone?

Two people back to receive a kick off? Can't believe you've never noticed that before. We've been doing that all year. I think Foreman was back with Berry on Saturday.

No.

Really?! Are you sure?!

I don't recall this but perhaps the shock of how atrocious our OLine was before the Bama game caused me to block all those kick-offs out.

Yes I'm very sure. Teams use this every year. Just another option so you don't have one guy covering sideline to sideline. We had Pickett and Young back for most of the year this year.

Also, it's completely routine for one of the two deep returners to step in front of the other and signal for him to take a knee.

One guy concentrates on catching the ball while the second guy scans the field for return options and signals the runner. Has been the case for a long long long time now! :eek:hmy:

Teams do it all the time. We usually have them staggered instead of side by side but there are always two returners

Happens all the time in high school, college, and the NFL.

What if one guy pretended like he was going to catch the ball so he could suck in the coverage to the left side of the field. Then the other guy could catch it and return it down the right side for a TD. Quick, some one get Jeff Fisher on the line!

Yeah we've done this for a while, but it appears you've never heard of the Sagarin ratings either, something that's been around for a while.

I think they first started putting 2 people in the end-zone back when they began kicking off.

The reasoning behind it, is if you have a pretty good returner, some teams try to kick it away from him. It's hard to cover the whole field. By putting back two, they never know which side the good one will be on just before the kick. It also allows everyone to block their assignments upfront and the other guy can lead up the field picking up any opponent from a team mate that missed their block.

I'd tell you that that happens in every football game ever, but I'm also enjoying you apparently never having watched one before.

I give you a "like" every time I see your avatar.

I would like to see us not even attempt to return another punt or kickoff for the rest of the season. Why? Because I'd rather have the ball on our own 1 yard line than the opponent have it on our 10. So sick of seeing fumbles on returns. First I thought it was just Young, now the fumbling torch seems to have been passed to Berry. When they muffed the one vs Alabama(but luckily retained possession), I lost it. The risk vs reward seems to be out weighed on the risk side.

It was Sutton who muffed the punt against Bama.
