What was our projection before this season?

I believe I had us at 9-3 with losses to GA, Bama, and the game we lose each year that we shouldn’t. This year that game was OK, which also knocked us out of the playoffs.

I thought 10 to 11. I didn't think our defense would regress so much. I thought we would be a more explosive version of last years team. I was right about our offense, and very wrong about our defense. I couldn't predict the injuries to our secondary.

If Max makes his chip shot against Georgia, we're not even having this conversation. Thats how razor thin the line is in this league. As frustrating as this team has been to watch this year, looking around the league at all the coaching vacancies and drama surrounding Kiffin and Ole Miss, I'm EXTREMELY grateful to be in our position right now!
I don't know that I'd call a 43 yarder a "chip shot". Certainly Max had the capability of hitting it and kickers make those more often than not, but a "chip shot" to me is like a 32 yarder or something, which is what FSU missed in the original "Wide Right" game. Heupel coached us into a position to win that game, hell we never even need FG without that miraculously great pass from Stockton on 4th down from the 25 or so to tie it. We had numerous chances to close that out and just didn't make the plays, like we did in 2022 or 2024 against Alabama. It's frustrating that it was another loss to Georgia but like you said, the line between victory and defeat is very thin.

I hate incompetence. I don’t hate CJH. But when he does INCOMPETENT things as a “coach,” yes, I hate that. I stand beside that—he’s a great recruiter and a good guy; but he is an atrocious coach at managing his players and games. He’s in over his head and needs to figure it out or he’ll end up on the street too.
The inability to discern the difference between a floor and a ceiling is a pretty good indicator of incompetence.

Not sure I'd call it a chip shot especially on that stage, but it just comes down to 2 or 3 plays in most top shelf games. The team that makes those plays wins. UT doesn't usually make those plays while UGA does. Just not in our DNA.
Yes, like if hooker completed that pass vs alabama we would have had a chance for a game winning fg ,oh wait he did complete the pass.
Why are you always anti vols?

I thought 10-2 if we caught a couple of lucky breaks and 8-4 if we were unlucky. I would say Gibson getting injured and MCCoy not healing were the unlucky breaks we couldn’t overcome.

From the beginning I thought low end 9-3 end 11-1 top end. 10-2 was where I thought we would be. We simply missed the Georgia opportunity. That's it's that's the difference.
Oklahoma we made mistakes or we also win that one.

8-9 wins. Those saying 10-11 wins are only saying that to get a reaction. No realistic Vol fan expected 10-11 wins this year.
I can't say this is fact but Id bet no one was saying 10-11 wins....until after Syracuse. Then I believe there were plenty.

I went from 7-5 before season to thinking 10-2 was possible.

But I'm just a fan, Im not an expert or exheadcoach like many here are. Not directed at you.

I know many of these s expected McCoy and/or Gibson to make it back eventually. Getting to 9 wins without either of them would be decent. Crazy that we’d be a FG from beating UGA or avoiding pick 6 vs Bama or avoiding fumble return vs OU from being a playoff team. It’s crazy to think about really.. 9-3 but just 3 plays from being 12-0
